The Manchester derby for the English Championship, played this Saturday, was a direct dispute in the fight for positions in the G-4 of the table.
United hosted City and won at home, beating their rivals 2-1.
With the victory, the team led by Erik ten Hag rises to third place, with now 38 points.
United also continues an unbeaten run of seven games in the season and reversed the thrashing they suffered in the first round.
At the time, they lost to City by 6 to 3, in October.
United superior and score intact
The first 45 minutes were Manchester City’s greatest possession of the ball, however the highlight was for United.
The home team managed to soften the best attack of the competition and exploited the counterattacks they found.
City revives, but takes change from United
After just two minutes, Bernardo Silva took a risk, but a detour at Varane made De Gea’s life easier.
Until at 15 minutes the score was opened.
After exchanging passes in the middle of the field, City advanced with Mahrez down the right.
The striker passed to De Bruyne, who crossed for Grealish, with a header, filling the net.
After substitutions, United got a goal after feeling complications in the whole stage.
In the first accurate kick, Bruno Fernandes finished strong and tied the duel.
The referee even marked offside for Rashford, who ran to the ball but did not shoot, but the VAR validated the move.
After three minutes, Bruno Fernandes finds Garnacho on the left and crosses low for Rashford to finish, closing the scoring and turning the game around.
