As an artist, when you’re posting on your social media and you can’t get past the dreaded 200 views mark, it can be completely disheartening and make you want to quit.
The key to getting more views on TikTok/Instagram (and therefore more streams on Spotify) is upping your view retention when editing your videos, which I’m going to show you in a hands on tutorial now.

👇 ABOUT ME:
Hey! I’m Damian Keyes and I’ve worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. The internet is deeply untrusting understandably and here is my background so you can have the full picture.
When I was 18, I was signed to a major label (dropped 6 months later) and at 23 I co-founded a Music University in Europe called BIMM (valued at $300M). I’m also a bass player, I’ve played for a number of artists including Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette and Billy Cobham. I initially retired at 30, but realised that life gets boring if you’re not building!
I have always been in-between the music industry and education which is how I ended up building my YouTube channel – I’ve been teaching artists how to release music long before it was a ‘niche’! I now educate artists around the world with my Academy, YouTube channel and I work directly with labels internationally alongside owning a live agency and management company.
It’s great to meet you and looking forward to working together on your music!

Hello, we are the Stone Roses, we've written a 10 minute epic called 'I am the Resurrection' which includes a massive 6 minute guitar and drum psychedelic freak out at the end.
Dear Stone Roses, we listened to the first 2 seconds and it's not for us. Good luck in your quest
this video was ideal, thx man
🧢✂️ is great! So many pro features easily accessible, although I still struggle to get more views I kinda feel like it's just me that likes my songs, haven't found the right audience yet.
I just want to thank you for introducing me to capcut. I have been using Microsoft Clipchamp and it constantly bugs. So once again thank you for that and for all the help and advice that you offer to the music community.😎😎
I love your vids Damian. They are so helpful.
I shared your launch list with my partner and he was floored! Felt like the info had true monetary value.
CAPCUT is amazing guys, the pro is totally worth it, helped us a lot in editing our content! There's still learning curve but it's not as hard as the others, we dont even use it in our desktop, our mobile phone is more than enough! Game changer!
20 yrs in the making finally
In a place in life to start my
Musical journey ur content has been instrumental
Holly crap this app is so much more easy to use! I'm so bad I was struggling with iMovie! Thanks!
He said get bored after 2 seconds. 😂
Thanks for the tips Damian. CapCut really is an amazing game changer when it comes to video editing quickly. It has really helped me to make videos with a better quality. As an emerging and new artist, I don’t have the budget for a pro team to create them and have to do it all by myself. This video really helped me out alot just like your other videos man. Thank you so much. Much love ❤

Steve Martin's advice for artists is to "be so good they can't ignore you." I try to maintain this as a principle in my work as an artist and pairing it with basic marketing techniques which I've been learning from you, Damian Keyes. Thank you! But I must say, like many artists right now, I'm face-to-face with three major dragons: 1) managing my money and knowing where to invest/spend, 2) learning the art of mixing/mastering, because getting my work mixed and mastered by someone else is too expensive, and 3) maintaining hope that my work will eventually bear fruit. One of the things I've thought of doing is giving talks on how Beauty is essential to a thriving culture – with Beauty, people thrive, and without Beauty, people inevitably suffer – and how Beauty is even of tremendous economic value. The idea would be to convince through articulate speech wealthy, good-intentioned people to fund large creative projects, guilds, and the such, so to make America – were I live – a place whose beauty rivals even that of medieval Europe. Then life as an artist could be something tenable, admired and sought after, without sacrificing the deeper philosophical purpose of the artist, which can be easy to slip into when your goal is to instantly gratify people acting on their social media addiction. Anyways, that's more of a long-term project. It would seem that the next step for me is to learn mixing/mastering, then start paying for and using Capcut, and then publishing my debut album, all the while, being "so good they can't ignore you." Godspeed to all my fellow artists out there! You are doing such important work!!
It's really useful seeing someone else's process, thanks for sharing!
I really appreciate the video Damian! You always deliver, providing excellent advice for aspiring musicians and bands like myself. Excited to share these new insights with the rest of my band regarding CapCut and some methods on how to keep the viewers engaged and interested visually. Thank You!
you are a life saver
Your content and courses are the foundation of everything I know to make content, focus on the important things in releasing music and it's been unbelievably helpful!! Thanks for everything
Thanks for this, I am using Capcut on my phone, but this seems much faster and easier and its really great that you can match audio with video!
Thanks, I use Capcut and learn't some handy tips
Damian, I just found you a few days ago. Your videos and emails have already been helpful as I ramp up for a new release. Thank you! I hadn't checked out CapCut before watching this, but a friend of mine loves using it. Can't wait to jump in and start using it.
Good stuff!
There are many youtuber decided to solo camping horror in haunted jungles to get views

I've been color grading my videos in premiere and I still can't break past 200-300 on tik tok, Instagram is a lil better but they aren't going viral yet
Any tips for posting live gig clips to Tiktok? No matter what I do, TT crushes the sound and usually it's just some compressed mess. We have some nice live clips but really hate to post them to TT because of this (IG/FB reels the sound is like it's supposed to be)
Beyond grateful for the value you provide through your videos and online community 🙏🏿 def taking notes
dAmO i LiKe It LoL!
Hahah no just joking🤪
I didn't knew about CapCut but already love it. Thanks for the tips! Next week I'm plannen to shoot some content myself and this will help so much in the edits. I've been watching your video's for some time now, always so helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏 hope to get to talk to you some day💪🤗
Keep up the good work❤️
Thank you so much for all of your advice I joined the DK-MBA over a year ago and your insight into industry has been really eye opening I’ve recently released my 3rd single of the year called ‘Still Feels True’ and using your methods I’ve been able to do 9k streams in just 5 days! This is really massive for me considering I was cursed by the <1000 for ages. I’ve learned more doing your course than I did at music uni!
That little zoom trick is awesome, trying that on my next video!!
