i have invested too much money in csgo skins and there are thousands of people who have put crores of inr in csgo market i don't think the government would be able to ban steam so easily and if they do, there will be a lot of backlash over the hypocrisy that apps like dream11 and some other gambling books that are being publicised by actors are able to run their business but steam can not which doesn't even induce gambling in anyway.
The Indian government is cracking down on betting, and addiction, but barely lifts a finger to the scammers that taint India's reputation. It's bad enough that there's a massive sub-section of youtube scam-baiters primarily targeting scammers in India. I guess because it's not directly harming the people from India, but rather them harming others? Doesn't make any sense. Hopefully things work out for the Indians, though. No reason to out-right ban all of steam.
I'm not sure if our government is going the China way. Banning is not a solution and internet was never meant to be centralized. We need to raise our voices instead of just giving up and start looking for alternative choices

Steam is not working on both BSNL and connect in Punjab from last few days. I made it to work by changing DNS server but the default one is still blocked.
If they ban steam, I expect they have some more nefarious self-serving purpose, such as certain businessmen paying a lot of money to certain politicians to force gamers into using their own garbage platforms like JioGames.
Dude this morning I opened my steam, and I'm just not able to access anything other than the store page. I have bought hundreds of games in this platform, I don't like pirating games, I hope indian government doesn't force me to pirate games.
More than anything I'm just scared that all my platinum achievements would be gone, I've put in a lot of hours to get these.

If the ban happens, you should have a video on how to use a VPN to connect and play on Steam. I have no clue how to use VPNs. And all the videos on VPN are from an American perspective.
Also, there's a huge CS:GO community in India. Don't they have esport events? I'm sure they will not keep silent if Steam gets banned.

I wish I could buy games from epic since it has some good sales from time to time but the only problem I use steam wallet to buy pc games. if steam gets banned I'm done. now even buying games in steam kinda feels off since the regional price is pretty high in india…
Indian government should focus more on crimes and other important issues, if steam gets banned then piracy will increase even more, steam is the only platform from where we gets games for cheap, marketplace was not working for a day for me, I am from Kolkata and got Alliance connection, hope steam won't get banned, I got more than 250 games on steam, the layout of steam is also great, we can arrange everything
Not sure if you've noticed, sometimes Epic won't have some 'inconsequential' DLCs like soundtrack, supporter's pack, etc, which are available on Steam. So usually I'll buy a complete version from Epic only after the game has aged and I've confirmed all the DLCs are packaged into it.
VPN is a not a real solution. Steam themselves can ban you permanently for using VPN. And authoritarian ban-loving governments are guaranteed to ban VPNs as well.
And whatever justification they may use to ban steam will also be used to ban epic and other stores.
the same thing happened here in indonesia, mainly due to issues with "permission" stuff…. it has been resolved, but some internet providers still can't access steam at all. in my case, im using cloudflare dns instead of vpn (which is slower), and it works just fine…

Here in Iran most ISPs have issues with Steam, the store and the inventory does not load at all, but with a simple DNS change everything is properly loading. Wish the best for the people of India.

This is most likely ISP problem. For example my ISP doesn't like rockstar social club, but that doesn't mean it will be banned in India. I just use vpn for 5 mins while logging in.
And banning of a big platform like steam in India is very unlikely. Our IT minister is not that stupid, he's quite familiar with the gaming industry. Govt wants to promote made in India games and it will be foolish to ban a hugely popular platform like steam. Pubg mobile was a security risk because they were sending player data to their homeland, which is very hostile towards us. Steam is a different case.
