  1. He would have scored even more, but one of his coachs forbided him from taking free kicks and penaltys for 2 to 4 years (I don't remember exactly how long, but it was for a very long time)… and it happened when he was on his prime. The motive was because, once, when he left the goal to take a free kick, he did'nt score, and the other team worked very fast and scored a goal instead (since he was still out of his goal)…

  2. Rogério is widely considered one of the best players, if not the single best player in Brasileirão history (not just keeper, player). This is a league that saw the likes of Pelé and Zico. The man was a beast and watching him live was amazing, every single set piece around the box was a very real scoring threat.

  3. It's nice to see people talking about this keeper in a non brazilian channel, Ceni was a true legend of this sport and more people worldwide deserves to know how good he was.

  4. I'm a Palmeiras fan, mostly because of my family, but growing up in the late 2000s I almost switched teams for São Paulo because of Ceni. Even though Palmeiras also had a crazy iconic goalkeeper (Marcos, from the 2002 world cup) no one come close to being as legendary as Ceni in Brazilian football to me. Watching him scoring free kick goals in the Libertadores every year was a blast. One of the best memories from my childhood.

  5. Rogerio's an absolut legend. When there was a foul or penalty for São Paulo, it was almost like an instant goal celebration. Greatest idol of my time as a supporter. He just had the bad luck to play at the same time as Dida and Marcos, so he never had a real shot in the brazilian national team. He's a coach now. Sadly didn't worked out in SPFC, so they parted ways. But as a supporter, i'll never stop admiring him as a player.

  6. If you look just to goals scored, it's impressive… but if you, also, look to how few free kicks he wasted, it's easy to say that this lad was the ultimate free kicker. A full ladder above the second best considering that guys like Juninho and Messi only converted into goals less than the half of their attempts. Rogério probably converted between 2/3 to 3/4 of his kicks

  7. I'm very very proud to have a São Paulo jersey signed by him. I grew up watching him making history in São Paulo FC, and I literally cried when he announced his retirement, and played for the last time. He said:

"When I die, I want my ashes to be spread here at Morumbi" (Cicero Pompeu de Toledo Stadium, in Morumbi Neighborhood). He loves this team. And, despite not being a good team coach, he was a legendary GK. I admire him a lot, and this team also.

  8. Great job. I just missed the mention of Ceni's hundredth goal. That was against an archrival, breaking a taboo of 12 years without winning the classic, the stadium shook and Ceni celebrated by taking off his shirt, which was not common, at the end of the match it seemed that we had won the liberators, but it was only the celebration of a legendary goal. Rogério went around with a sea of journalists around him.

  9. I'm Brazilian and I'm a Flamengo supporter (e.g. i'm not a São Paulo fan). However, I must say Ceni is one of the greateat goalkeepers of all time. The fact that he never played in Europe is beyond me. Even though I like Alisson and Ederson, none of them is half the keeper Ceni was.

  10. Marcos was also a legendary gk. There's so much discussion about this, but the overall consense is that both are legends and Brazil was well-served on 2002.

  14. Rogério Ceni é sem dúvida o melhor de todos os tempos. Raros são aqueles que embaixo da trave se aproximam dos seus números. Na Europa falam do Buffon. Nós do Brasil falamos do Ceni.

  15. Rogério Ceni's São Paulo is the only club in Brazil to win the league 3 times in a row. If football was less eurocentric he would be considered the best goalkeeper of all time by many people.
If you want to see his best performances, look out for these three games: São Paulo 4×0 Tigres 2005, São Paulo 1×0 Liverpool 2005 and Universidad Catolica 3×4 São Paulo 2013.
