  1. I don’t know much about animation but could the spacing of an animation affect balance? To me, it seems like Ryu’s 3rd Strike low is more pokey and less punishable, so a slight nerf would be to have him extend his whole leg out. Idk tell me if I’m wrong.

  2. Man just casually mentioned in passing that he ANIMATED THANOS. 😲

But yeah, I already resigned myself that this game is going to be ugly, so the disappointment has mostly passed.

  3. Excellent video. As an animator myself, I agree with all the points, except when you talk about KOFXV. I think this game has a lot of problems regarding animation, it's much, much worse than SF6 imho. Momentum is a problematic thing in KOFXV for example, the feeling of weight is strange in many cases, and some keyposes are terrible, unfortunately. Some people think KOFXV is not too good in visuals, and I am sure the animation contribute to it. To summarize, some aspects in animation are good, but overall it has a lot to improve

  4. Street Fighter 6's animation always looked weird to me but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. So much makes sense now after watching this video.

  5. Street Fighter 6 sucks and it is Trashhh. I really see the street franchise is going backwards. Sf6 for me is the worst street fighter game. It lost it's goodΒ  identity since the 90's. Street fighter 3 and alpha. Capcom vs Snk 2, marvel vs capcom 3Β  were the last good street fighter games. Street Fighter 6 looks so boring to me. Boring gameplay, boring new characters, the characters design sucks. Ugly faces, Unrealistic oversized arms from Luke and to buffed shemale Marisa. very boring music. Ugly sf6 logo. Ugly sf6 box art. And then the stupid Avatar EA Sport Fortnite saints row open world mode. Its so stupid. They only put in the open world mode because without it street fighter 6 won't survive. It doesn't match and doesn't belong in a street fighter game. And then the stupid mini games. Awhh those sucks really badπŸ€¦πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ. Even street Fighter EX Is better than street fighter 6. I can't believe the fans hyping this trash game and Capcom don't know what to do with street fighter franchise. It's totally ruined now. So Capcom make the game americanized western woke political correct as possible. LGBT- avatar non-binary and black/white/asian race friendly. I wan't street fighter to be oldschool japanese again. Capcom need to look at Arc System Works. Now they make good fighting games and still very japanese. They are the new japanese Capcom for me what capcom used to be in the 90's and early 2000

  6. Lets be real, 2D SF games are the only ones with great animation especially 3rd Strike. But regarding flaws, i still think SF6 look great, hope they go back to anime in the future

  7. While I do understand your critiques, I’m not sure they’ll ever use Guilty Gear as a point of inspiration. Those animations require each and every article of clothing to be key framed, which would come at the cost of being able to sell costumes. And even going that far in the anime direction would scare off the masses unless you’re an established anime brand like Dragon Ball or a Nintendo IP like PokΓ©mon.

  8. Bro this video is just you disagreeing with SF6 animations cuz its not your preference.
That doesn't make the animations bad, it simply means YOU dont like them..The game is very well animated. Anyone saying it's NRS level is lying.

  9. I'm of the opinion that SF6 has pretty good animations, especially compared to its predecessor, but there are definitely a few things here and there that aren't cutting it anymore in terms of quality. I'm used to it though; it is a common problem across legacy fighters as a whole, so it doesn't really bother me to the extent of some other people I've seen in the comments, and it isn't an NRS level problem either.

The animator within me enjoys the character movement cycles, especially Kimberly's, but it absolutely cringes when I witness Ryu's horrible Donkey Kick or anything Manon does. I know shes a Ballet dancer, but even she couldn't stand on her toes like that while barefoot on dirty concrete.

  10. Medium attacks are bad examples because it's always been special-cancelable in SF. Now, medium attacks mostly aren't. It doesn't seem like you were concerned with how those poor animation choices, as you state, were intentional for design.

SF6 is a reaction-heavy game and moves that overly telegraph slow the pace of combat. I think Capcom is looking for a more proactive game, so that means some attack need to be cheated for that effect.

  11. GG's animation and designs are amazing, but I'm just not into the anime fighting games. Overall, I appreciate the video, you were respectful, and gave good reasons as to why you feel the animation has suffered. I think it's probably due to motion capture, etc. hopefully they can iron that out, SF5 just like Killer Instinct, had some characters with amazing animation, and then others (Falke for example) with animation that was not consistent with the other characters. Might also have to do with a lot of the SF3 animators moving onto other positions or no longer working there.

  12. Did you see Cammy's regular air throw in SF6? It feels off. SF5's was obviously bad, but this one just doesn't seem like it hurts as much as they were probably going for.

  13. thanks so much for the breakdowns, great video. Some of the sf6 animations do feel soft to me but I don't know how to explain, your video makes it much clearer.

  14. Great analysis of SF6 animations. For example in overwatch characters have their limbs and body parts stretching and squeezing when you slow down gameplay videos. And that's exactly why they are so smooth and looks fantastic in motion. Finally someone with a solid background has addressed the issue

  15. I just can’t take this idiot serious. This is the best these characters have ever looked in their entire history, but I’m starting to realize that it takes skill more than common sense to understand that because all his loss with people with blurry vision.

  16. Enjoyable critique, I feel like anytime a complete stylistic departure is made there will be some adjustment and refinement that is needed. Hopefully they will improve over time in terms of quality. The decision to get closer to realistic models was probably done to increase overall popular appeal, but I for one will always miss the pinnacle of sprite animation that was street fighter 3. It's too bad that the amount work and detail that they put into it was ultimately unsustainable.

  17. Great video man πŸ‘ŒπŸ½πŸ’ͺ🏽 I draw and illustrate so I totally understand your points on some of what you dislike. Another friend and I had similar talks about this thing. A lot of us were inspired by CAPCOM from back in the day, and it feels they have lost some of that creativity and drive.

  18. Street fighter 6 has all this spray paint on it and the art doesn't even look good. Even with a cell filter this time it won't even look well as it should. Some of the characters have no life like Jamie he looks like a mannequin. The art work ain't tight enough and a little too over buff. Some of the characters are harmless kiddie like and are borderline. Just don't remind me of street fighter enough and this time a style similar to mk x a lil not even mk 11. Maybe how they presented the game for both sexes it's kinda too fun loving. It's just a sucker feel like they tried to go for popular cool points and sales for add ons than the real essence of street fighter. People say it's like street fighter 3 it's not. I say sf6 should be something like Capcom vs snk alphas art style and sf3. Maybe graphical like the new Tekken. I can't put my interest into street fighter or feel it's better than mk anymore. I feel sf 4 could be better than mk x, but mk 11 and this new mk 1 street fighter ain't touching it no where close. The new king of fighters did a better job with they art work than sf 6. It's cleaner and it's just put together better, better flow with the graphics. Maybe this sf6 on the ps 5 pro a speed up of the frame rate. If this new fatal fury game is way better than the street fighter 6 I'm done with street fighter.

  19. Having played the demo and now beta, I couldn't put into words why SF6 felt off to me and I think this video explained why. Technically everything works well but the animations don't feel right and don't communicate information/feel as much as other games in the genre. It feels less intuitive to start.

  20. Even the animation for the hurricane kick looks strange it looks like the stiff street fighter 2 hurricane kick πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚so silly. The third strike animation for that move was way better and fluid

  21. Great video, learned a lot about animation and even planning to dabble in it just for hobby. I noticed that Resident Evil 4 Remake has the same problem, the animations and impact feels weird, as someone else said, it feels like there is no power behind movement, Leon's actions and the weapons themselves. It would be great if you turned this into a series with upcoming characters, Mortal Kombat 1 and Tekken 8.
