Tech: Self-driving bus opens to passengers in Scotland

A “driverless” bus service set to begin in Scotland will use sensors to navigate roads at speeds of up to 50mph, with a “safety driver” remaining behind the wheel to handle twists and turns.

The service will operate on a trial basis until 2025 with a fleet of five Alexander Dennis Enviro200AV vehicles.

    Eventually… in other news.

  2. Seems like a great idea to me. Staff must easily be among the biggest costs for a bus service, remove them and it'll become economically viable to offer far more frequent services across the country for lower prices. If they can demonstrate that it consistently runs on its own with a comparable or better safety record to the average driver then this technology could eventually revolutionise bus travel.

  3. "great" so in near future many million drivers will lose their jobs… We love technology, don't we? P.s. i wonder, who will be responsible if there will be accident and people will lose their lives if no driver taking place?

  4. seems a bit silly that the bus will be more expensive and require 2 members of staff to run it instead of one. It’s good progress towards automation but is it really needed?

  5. Money for gimmick and virtue signalling project but still the worst drug problem and teenage pregnancy rates in the developed world
Honestly I’m sick of this utter nonsense

  6. Reading a situation is where the technology needs to focus next. Hence the push with AI.
Computers do have issues with variables unless they are pre-programmed.

  7. Self driving bus which needs a "just in case" driver & conductors who were phased out years ago due to cost cutting & being apparently surplus to requirements.

Up to date, future proof tech which for some reason requires 40 yr old staffing levels & work practices,

Just let the guy drive the bus, its been fine for decades
    😂😂😂
