I will miss this as a regular feature, thank you for all the past episodes.
The other two crossover classics, Batman/Hulk and X-men/Teen Titans are both fabulous too!
Man this brings back memories. Got this when it first came out. Still have it and the sequel, too.
sad this wont be a weekly thing anymore i really enjoy listening to these retrospectives while i'm at work
You're not doing another. Im thankful for video?
What a great episode! I got bone of the reprints of this in the 90's that was shown.
I guess I'm as old as Breen, I also remember seeing this magically appear on store shelves when it first came out..! (too big to fit in the spin-rack with the other comics, it was down on the bottom shelf, with the magazines) My 9-year old heart skipped a beat, I'm sure. Very sad to hear though that we won't be seeing the Retrospectives as frequently in the new year, these are always my favorite videos of yours, Wes, since I never bother with new comics anymore.
Thanks for all the great Retro videos, I've learned a lot from them.
This may be our last Retrospective ..For Now . But I think we went out on a High Note .
Gold retro.
My parents bought this book for me as a gift after tonsil surgery in 1976. I was five at the time. No telling how many times I read this book and I have no idea whatever became of it, sadly.
Ross Andru was phenomenal.
Thanks for this show. It's definitely one of the most positive and infectiously enthusiastic comics shows. Gonna miss it.
Definitely gonna miss the show. I got a fever, and the only prescription is more Breen!
I was 5 years old when this book came out and I had the privilege to buy this book at the local comic book shop, but over time I lost it when I moved. Great book to have and read
I'm going to miss the Comic Book Retrospectives. It was my most favorite of your videos.
Oh my gosh! I’ve been looking for this comic! I remember borrowing it from a friend and it was so fun!
Happy New year 🎊 everyone
God, I still have the giant sized version of this that they put out back in the day. Remember those?
I remember my brother use to have this book. Sadly things happened thus he never kept it. However many years later (probably around late 90's or early 2000's) I was in a book store and I saw the reprint version with the one with gold frame and at that time it was on sale in which I instantly bought it. It's a nice classic book with very cool art. I love Ross Andru's art in this. I still have it along with the Uncanny X-Men / New Teen Titans.
I had this when it first came out. Wish I still had it. Ross Andru was a master of perspective and detail. This is the best crossover I think I’ve ever read in comics.
Loved this crossover. I remember how fun it was to see two flagship characters interact.
End of an era…
I read this in the last few years while on a Bronze Age Superman kick, and it was one of the big highlights for me during that time. It's just so fun, exciting, and clearly made with a lot of love.
This was just fun. You can't make everyone happy, and they knew it was probably a one-off, so go nuts. This could easily be re-written for modern times and still work.
I love the art, especially the bright colors. It's a comic book. If you re-did say Batman v. Hulk, I don't know if it would work. Because the characters have changed so much. Batman would bring in his Scooby-Doo gang of sidekicks and, we'd have to acknowledge Tim Drake has a boyfriend, and Hulk is probably Ghost Rider now or something stupid.
I think Superman and Steve Rogers would get along really well. I don't know if Jonathan Kent served in WW2, but I think Cap would remind Clark of his father. With Spiderman the obvious team up is Firestorm. Conway wrote both, they are teenage superheroes, and Peter is not only a scientist but a teacher. I wish they would do more of these.
Nooooo don’t end the retro reviews!!! There some of the best content on youtube!!
Thanks for all the great reviews guys!! Loved watching all the videos!!
wow, i remember having one issue of each crossovers mentioned here as a kid (hungarian published translations in Romania). Unfortunately i dont have them anymore, but i remember vividly how amazing the art was in each and every one of them, the Teen Titans vs the X-Men, i absolutely loved the art in Batman vs Hulk, and of course Superman vs Spiderman is just an absolute classic.
AWESOME!
@4:11 my favorite word
Yeah, definitely bummed to see this segment go. Is there a new segment coming that is going to be like this one?
I am old enough to remember this on the newsstand as well, the $2.00 price tag was enough my mom refused to buy it, even though I begged profusely for it.
I was in third grade when this came out. It cost $2. I was afraid my mom wouldn't get it for me because of it's price. But after keeping another kid from stealing from me at school, I re read that thing so many times the cover fell off. Bought a replacement on eBay about 20 years ago and have the reprint in the Marvel/DC crossovers collection. Morgan Edge was really a key figure in that era and miss that.
I was only 3 when this came out but saw it a couple years later and this book was a huge deal to me as a kid. It was like seeing McDonald's and Burger King team up to make a sandwich. Lol
I used to see ads for this in the middle of comics when I was little in the 70s.
I bought this off the rack… 7-11's magazine rack.
YOU FORGOT THAT LOCAL FANDOM HAD AN EFFECT REMBER BOTH DC AND MARVEL WERE STILL IN NEW YORK. AND THE FANS WERE ALLOWED IN THE OFFICES. PLUS SOME OF THE FANS TURNED PRO.
YOU MUST REMBER ANDREU AND ESPOSITO WERE THE DC ARTISTS TO GO TO FIRST SGT ROCK, SUICIDE SQUAD, AND ALSO WONDER WOMAN.
I enjoyed this retro comic review. Something that I like here is that everyone on the panel respects both heroes. And there was no negativity toward DC or Marvel. I love it. That's how it should be. Superman and Spider-Man are my 2 favorite superheroes. This crossover was excellent. Thanks for the review gentlemen.
Still can’t believe this, and the JLA/Avengers crossover actually happened.
I love listening to these to help me fall sleep. Thanks for all the story times. Happy New Year to all three of you guys
I got the reprint version of that released prior to the marvel vs dc event
whyyyyyyyyyyy
Sad to see retrospectives go. One of my favorite parts of your show, I've really enjoyed these!
WTF?! You aren’t doing these videos anymore?
I love Ross Andreu work.
My favorite crossover is Batman Hulk
I love this crossover comic with DC and Marvel, featuring my favorite Marvel superhero and my favorite overall superhero. I love how Superman and Spiderman fight and work together, back before it was an overused cliché. I wish DC and Marvel could do quality crossover comics like this again, but that's no longer possible. Still, I think this is one of the best, if not the best crossover comic.
i have both this one and the one from 1980, Superman and Spiderman, Teaming up against Doctor Doom, never selling those.
This story sounded good. I went to buy it on ebay and it was listed at $150 plus. Ugh. I could buy four cartons of 18 eggs for that price. I will have to read it online! Good review!
