The Ultimate Life-form – Shadow FOR SMASH! (Challenger Concept #70)

Ever since the debut of Sonic in Brawl, fans of the series have been clamoring for more characters from the Sonic series to become playable in Smash, and with a colorful cast of characters that all add something unique to the table, it’s not hard to understand why this is the case. Many people believed that, given his popularity, Sonic would be one of the first third party franchises to receive another playable fighter, and while characters such as Knuckles and Eggman are huge fan demands, the most requested newcomer from the series as of right now is Sonic’s iconic rival, Shadow the Hedgehog.

Shadow has been a part of the Smash series as long as Sonic, as he has been an assist trophy since Brawl, and given his huge popularity, and the inclusion of echo fighters, many people believed that Shadow should have gotten into Smash somewhere in the last two titles, but that’s sadly not the case. While some have started to lose a bit of hope, it’s clear that the push for Shadow to join Smash isn’t going to die down anytime soon, especially after the success that was the Year of Shadow, and to round out this “Fearless” year, let’s discuss the potential that the Ultimate Lifeform can bring to the table if he were even given a chance to join the battle.

  3. Currently at 2:19. From the way you're describing him it sounds like you designed him to be the Akuma to Sonic's Ryu.

Fundamentally a similar character to Ryu/Sonic, but trades constant offense at the cost of defense and survivability. Capable of closing out rounds/stocks quickly after starting, but also folds like tissue paper if you can't keep up the pressure.

  4. I'm not the biggest fan of Shadow, but I still ADORE this moveset and it's easily my favorite Shadow moveset concept.

It looks cool as hell, captures almost all of Shadow abilities, and gives him a few Sonic moves without going too far in the echo department.

  5. The only thing I would change is that he has 2 final smashes, one for a non-full chaos gauge, and one for a full chaos gauge, the final smash without the full gauge will be the one you described in the video, the one with the full gauge however, will have Shadow unleash his Doom Wings, before zig-zagging all over the stage in the direction you hold the left control stick in, any players caught will cause a cinematic to play where Shadow then flies up, powers up and then unleashes a barrage of large chaos spears, finishing off with 3 which sends the opponent flying, shadow will then zig-zag fly above the foe before delivering a massively powered dive kick to the opponents, one so powerful that when he spears through them with his kick, they explode instantly, ending the cinematic. (The 2nd Final Smash I thought up of is based on how Shadow finishes off Neo Devil Doom in both in the boss fight, and the cutscene after depleting Nei Devil Doom's health to 0.)

  6. I think you really fixed Sonic’s biggest issues as a character while also making Shadow feel completely unique! Encouraging combat with hard-hitting attacks, and Chaos Energy being used as a system to keep you and your competitors on their toes. Also, I’m not sure if you mentioned this in the video, but making it so Shadow’s Chaos Energy only fills up when dealing/taking damage would greatly punish campers and reward well executed combos! This video deserves way more attention and really ends off the year of Shadow with me having hope that Shadow will get a chance to shine in the next Smash Bros. Title!

  7. Fantastic job! You clearly have more knowledge on both Smash's game mechanics and shadow's character than any other moveset creator I have seen before. Incredible thoughtful, well done, and creative take on a Shadow moveset that makes his kit as cool and insane as many of the craziest DLC characters in Ultimate. Thanks for the awesome video!

  8. this is probably one of the best and most innovative movesets i have ever seen based around shadow the hedgehog. that being said. is there anyway i can use SFM to create my own smash character portraits to make my movesets using character protraits just like yours but completely different?

  9. I'm of the opinion that Metal Sonic would work better as an Echo Fighter of Sonic, if there was ever going to be one.

Change up Metal's attacks to hit once but harder instead of multiple times, give him Fox's up-B for the Maximum Overdrive move (or Fox's down-B for the Black Shield, if you prefer), and you're golden.

  10. I really hope they give a chance for Shadow in the next Smash game. As many fans, I've wanted him to be playable since Brawl, as you showed in your video, he can be a unique character with very interesting and versatile moveset, also, if they run out of time, they can make him a echo fighter for Sonic or a semi clone. Really a waste opportunity he has not been in Smash.

  11. Very good video. If I had any nitpicks, it'd be that Id love for him to have the finger snap move from Sonic Battle (maybe it was in and I missed it?). Also the Mephiles color shouldve have more of a faded green teal streak, rather than a bright blue teal streak. Maybe a Super Shadow color would be cool to since a lot of people like to play with final smashes off (most of my friends lol)
