Caty Sage was right not to leave the family she now had. It could have been a trip from which she would not have returned, and that would have been an added tragedy. She was right in saying that she had lost her original family long ago. She needed to stay with her adopted family, where she was loved, accepted and understood.
101:50 I recently was looking up my maiden name in old library accounts. I came to find, that someone with the same last name was captured by the Native Americans in Kentucky, her and her son. Unfortunately she incurred injuries which cost her her her life. This happened at a creek which was later named after her.
Her son was taken up north to Ohio, where he grew, married a squaw and they had 4 children. In some kind of treaty with white people , they were handed over to the whites, as part of a peace treaty. After he had died leaving the children fatherless.
I do not know if these people are relatives, though I have an odd maiden name, so I figure they are, way back somewhere.
I know in my family very dark skin and dark hair runs in our family. So who knows???
I now live in Ohio in Wyandotte and Mingo country. We just never know do we.
All of the mountain women story's touched my heart. My kinfolk on my mama's side are from kentucky

The stories she had, (mostly kept her shining days to herself, she found the Lord) what I wouldn't give to hear her again. So important to sit, listen and ask questions from our elder. The five year old girl was my aunt on my mother's side. Sage. I know the story. This story is most likely the closet to true. She is known as the Queen or Mother of the tribe. I am glad her and her mother and family got many answers.

My Dad is from Hazzard KY. My Mom from Pineville. He and my Mom lived through the Great Depression. I was taught the lessons they learned on survival and Faith.
It's always so chilling to hear how soldiers on both sides during the Civil War treated their fellow Americans. 😢 Julia was such a strong woman! She deserved that pension. Thanks for these history lessons.
