Sky News host Caleb Bond says Toyota joins the green movement as it axes the LandCruiser 70 Series V8 model.
“Anyone who knows anything about off-roading or who has spent any time in the bush will know the popularity of the 70 Series Landcruiser,” Mr Bond said.
“It has been a somewhat ubiquitous part of country Australian life for decades … Toyota has decided to go soft in the name of the environment … why are they dumping such a wildly popular product? Well, ‘community expectations’ apparently.”

Honestly what would that presenter know about utes or the bush
Tyrannical government coupled with honorless auto manufacturers that want to strip you of what you want or need to survive in the name of some fake climate crisis made up by hippies in the 1970s and have yet to be right about any of their “predictions” (aka scare tactics)
The engine in the new 70 the 1gd is actually just as powerful stock and is more reliable then the v8 due to less moving parts
The axing of the V8 was one of the worst kept secrets going around in automotive
circles. The 2.8L 70 series has more torque, better economy and better performance than the V8 off the shelf. That’s the reality.
And here we all are thinking Toyota “dodged the EV nonsense”… and then they go and pull this shit!!
RAM sales are about to 📈 go through the roof!!😂
Glad I got my V8 guzzle machine
I do love the v8s alot but man the new 79's pull hard and a wicked offroad, they just dont sound awesome like the v8s. Kind of feel like old mate here is being slightly disingenuous with this yarn just to get old boys wound up about someo tree hugger turning the utes gay or something.
At some point we’ve got a deal with this overreach of morons trying to dictate to our lives.
The small minority of Activists are wagging the dog by the tail.
Bring back the 1HZ 6 cylinder diesel
Hahaha we all knew this last year
Bout time they got rid of that underpowered boat anchor, hopefully the overpriced, uncapable, overratted ute is next
I don't know a single person who cares about getting rid of certain vehicles to manage emissions….so who are they 'representing'?
Conveniently forget to mention that the V6 is more powerful and has more torque. lol
Toyota selling out to keep the greenies happy, their cars aren’t what they used to be.
not killing model, just changing the engine… FACTS matter!
BAHAAH When a political pundits pushing a political agenda start talking about engines, cars and trucks it's hilarious. Caleb you have no clue what you talking about. That V8 Turbo DIESEL engine is not tough and does not have much grunt & power. The fact it's a V8 + DIESEL is the massive red flag how weak it is. Not exactly the best too for the job. That engine IS SOFT.
I identify as a Leyland 😎
Its the law ffs.
Bring back falcons and commodores
hey at least the prices for old 4wds are going to go up 🙂
Bad decision
Sales:
90% = V8
10% = 1HZ (detuned, 60% of the power)
This sales comparison would be more relevant if they sold the 2.8L for a few more years before dropping the V8. The new 2.8L literally performs better, it’s just not as repairable or noisy. Long term, most fleets will want an auto box and better fuel economy, Toyota know what they’re doing, and I don’t think it’s a “reducing emissions” decision.
They are now being driven by former Gwagon owners around Toorak anyway
They bent the knee. The market will decide. Can’t wait for Toyota to feel the terrible monetary consequences of their actions.
What a shit article, politicising a simple technical decision. The 1GD is a much better motor for the Land Cruiser, end of story. Typical Sky crap.
staff writer october 2024?
It’s no different than banning of quad bikes Australia has gone mad
Ridiculous lazy journalism. Suggesting that because a V8 makes up most of the sales is proof that this is what people wants …. People that spoke to Henry Ford owned a lot of horses.
The toughness is no less present in the new 2.8l engine variant as has been demonstrated by many die hard owners via their YouTube reviews etc. in fact the V8 out towed and performed the V8 in all testing except for low range, 1st speed crawl due to lower engine compression. Toyota have been dominating for many decades and I don’t think they are about to put a foot wrong now.
It has everything to do with Labor government.
All for a warming which ain't happening. For a sea rise which ain't happening ànd to starve plants of C02. Total madness. It is the lies that bother. The truth may help.
Doesn’t matter a rats arse if I want a V8 I’ll just buy a RAM or a Silverado, you won’t get a 2.8Lt that’ll pull like that.
