There are inherent problems that plague specific vehicles, and the Death Wobble is the bane of the Jeep Cherokee. The CAR WIZARD 🧙♂️ shows how to find the source of the wobble and how to fix it.

The commanfault of this car is oil leak
Why has no one developed a watts link front and rear to replace the track bar?
99 Jeep sport 4.0 early model with distributor(166k), check for zero play on the rotor shaft, mine had quite a bit(.030), so I replaced it and idles smoother.
Check front output shaft on transfer case(np242) for zero play, yes zero, mine has just a little which causes a grinding type noise if you listed closely due to noisy bearing.
Replace control arm bushings upper and lower if you’re driving on road(62-68mph) and feel a little movement in steering wheel, after wheel alignment and all other repairs for death wobble.
There is nothing cheap about a Jeep, even if you maintain it. Hope this helps.
Thanks. I’ll check under my 97 cherokee. It’s in great shape and stock. A be lot of guys want to buy it. I don’t have any problems but it’s good to catch stuff early.
That thing is clean!!!
Tie rid ends
That's hardly the stock catalytic converter. You can tell just by looking at it.
I have had at least tie rod ends cause death wobble, ball joints cause of death level, track bar causing death wobble. All of those can be a factor to death wobble. What a lot of poeple miss after death wibble is that where your tie end sit in the spondle those holes where the pin goes through and ypu add your castle nut can be wollowed out. Hwve you ever has a castle nut tighten so much oast the holr where your cotter pin goes in ?. Time for a chamge. Jeeps hands fown are my favorite vehicles to work on and drive.
Looks like he got confused
wow. Almost 110k miles on a Jeep XJ CHEROKEE what kind of engine did Jeep put in @CarWizard?
track bar
Is it for sale ? I want it !!! ❤
That’s beautiful.
Yamaha XJ? 😂
Lol, excaliber! I had an 89 Comanche XJ and it death wobbled. As soon as it happened, I instantly knew to call it death wobble.
I have 2 -99 XJs (among other cars) . a 2wd Limited rust free 204k i drive daily, a 4wd rusty Sport 220k as a backup. Theyre both reliable and run/drive good.
Fact check steering stabilizer dos not contribute to death wobble i have several jeeps and not one of them have a steering stablizer 😂😂😂 Steering stabilizers just help mask the real problem
I've Always wondered…Why have I never seen an XJ Cherokee with dual exhausts???🧐😕
Love this!!!!!!!!! There is an upgraded track bar too, or can change bushing. More old Jeeps!!!!
Worn links could cause wobble, lateral movement,…..
I bought my XJ brand new in 97. It's a loaded sport. Looks brand new. 72k miles.
Just gave it to my 24 year old twin daughters.
We bought it when we were trying to get pregnant as our first family car.
Then we found out we were having twins…
Bought a brand new first diesel in the Pacific Northwest 2000 Ford Excursion.
Still drive them both every day.
Hemi swaps? latest thing is the 2JZ swap. bolts to the transmission
Brake rotors cause it too
I’m from CT and I absolutely know that dealership. I believe they are still in business today!
Good video
God I hate how youtube looks these days, unlike this jeep!!! OMG look how clean, likw a time machine
Love these Jeeps, had one many moons ago. That 4.0 6 cylinder engine is pretty much indestructible.
I ♥️ my 98 Classic. Bought it stock in '12. Never selling
Trackbar bushings and the Control Arm bushings. It is never the Steering Stabilizer.
once you fix the Real cause, you can even take the stabilizer off.
Another thing to look for is the caster adjustment.
Hay Mr wizard I have a 1997 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo is a good vehicle
Both this vehicle and the FJ Cruiser where available with full time four wheel drive….
I had 3 XJs. Every one of them needed the front end fixed about every 80,000 miles. Nothing makes your butt pucker like driving over some railroad tracks and finding yourself suddenly going sideways. I loved those things and have been looking for a clean one for a long time now.
I'd rather have an older Jeep with the 4.0 than any of the new ones
Letting the XJ go out of production was a major mistake. They've not done anything as good since. And good luck finding a good one for sale. Death wobble is common to all solid axle vehicles regardless of make of model. It's based on the problem of gyroscopic progression of two wheels linked directly. The track bar (panhard arm) is absolutely crucial to controlling this.
Death Wobble makes it fun to drive. 04 WJ and current 06 TJ same wobble. I like exciting driving when tooling around. 😅😅😅
For me death wobble was caused by a bad u-joint on the passenger wheel.
