This is the most dangerous race on Earth. And many people are calling for it to be banned. But if the racers themselves have defended this race for over a hundred years, is the danger just a necessary evil?
*No footage of fatal incidents is shown in this video. This is an educational documentary on the professional racing at the Isle of Man TT*

Totally worth it.
why do we need to see the narrator?
This race is just insane… Even watching this race on YouTube or television sends shivers down one's spine… Imagine doing a lap at over 200mph…
You may not think the risk is worth it, I feel it is a pure raw example of personal choice and worth it to everyone that has ever competed there.
I live on the IOM . It should be banned immediately or at least made a lot safer . A new route possibly . Every year a little boy or girl loses his/ her Daddy . Is it worth it …no . We have more money on this island than just about anywhere else on earth . Make it safer or stop it
It HAS a clear answer: it is worth it!
No
It will get banned no doubt. Europe is soft asf
Great video, Mr. Albon!
Almost like a good normal documentary – very interesting!
Keep up with the good work! 👌
It is the single, greatest, race on the planet. I have nothing but love for the Dakar, but you can ask any, ANY, professional racer (car or motorcycle) and they will tell you the best and bravest racers on earth are in the TT.
IT SHOULD NOT BE BANNED. each racer signs up for it they know the consequences of doing the tt.
Excellent job capturing the race conundrum.
Risking death for a trophy? It can't be worth it
Everyone knows. Mr Death attends the event every year.
As show of respect. Mr Death bows long and low to the Gods of Speed and the heroes that race.
✊😞
"…or if its just motorsports suicide."
At least try to hide your bias, soyboy.
Aren't we sick of liberal twerps trying to decide what is good for us? If you don't agree with the Ilse of Mann and what goes on there don't participate and keep your nose out of their business ! The trouble these people cause is just getting unbearable for the masses!
What a brilliant, unbiased video, from a non biker. How refreshing for someone NOT to be lecturing and shaming us about how we SHOULD feel. I’m sick of 99% of us listening to 1% of the population for 99% of the time. I’ve decided that henceforth I shall be identifying as “Biker”. It’s done me no harm for the last 60 years. We need more Joey Dunlop’s. A giant amongst mortals – as a magnificent human being, not just as the 2 wheeled God we all worship. IOMTT forever. Tis’ written
I don't understand why this guy is upset? Is someone forcing him to watch or participate? What in the world are people doing now a days just looking for something to start a discussion about that they don't agree with so they can get a number of hits on their video and become someone important in their own mind! This is getting really stupid to even allow a video like this !
Keep the race.
Should Wingsuit flying (through super-tight valleys, passes et al) be banned? Not heard that myself but there are many suggestions and one cannot hear them all. It's the only thing I can think of that's analogous to the TT ie one pilot and that much range of movement in an activity where body positioning and focus are utterly critical to survival. It's definitive Deep Play: where the rewards of success outweigh the consequences of failure. Banning the TT would be an atrocious act shafting the residents right where it really hurts: their pockets – whilst breaking a fascinating tradition found nowhere else on Earth. Banning the TT would kill the Isle of Man as all who live there have known it – all their lives. The Isle of Man and the TT are part of each other now.
TT race mechanic here. The Isle of Man TT must be experienced in real life. I'll tell you what I tell everyone else; The TT is the best two weeks of my life re-lived every year.
the only good comparison between the race and: everest, boxing and basejumping, was everest I think… people participating/total deaths, is sky high in this race compared to "boxing" as a whole…
'oftentimes' is not a word.
Hahaha, I ride a bicycle everyday on public streets, just because I'm not going 200mph doesn't mean I'm not taking a life or death risk because I certainly am, racer's gonna race it's as simple as that, I ride a street bike and I average around 35 mph because I no longer go on trip's, just to the store and back, speed on my MC is for young athletic individuals, I'm neither.
Better balanced than most videos on the TT. Pity so many of the video clips are not of the TT but from racetracks. The TT is a time trial so there are never a lot of bikes close together. You did not comment that none of Michael Dunlop's relatives died in the Isle of Man.
Similar road racing takes place in Northern Ireland, but does not get the publicity of the TT.
True safety features have been added after accidents, but isn't that how trains and planes became safer?
The honor for the winner for isle of man tt should be far more than f1 grand prix ! Grand prix is just over glammed ! Fcuk that ! Rally , isle of man ! These are for man of courage !!!
Would love to go see this!!
Anyone that puts a numberplate in any kind of racing sport knows the risks….
I broke lots of bones crashing my superbike over the years on closed courses. IOM just gives you the opportunity to break them all at once. 🙂
Government and politicians will often try to make people "safer" by removing their freedom because they see it unfit or unsafe.
To answer your question yes it's worth it. I never raced motorcycles but I rode bulls, and had a lifetime in breaking and trying horses and working wild cattle, but I knew the risks and willingly accepted the consequences of pain, and possible death, as a compromise to get what I want out of life. The event should be left alone. It's what they want to do and do it willingly. I mean, sure, living dangerously you might not live long, but it sure as hell beats not living at all. God bless.
The idea that life can be safe is an illusion. Controlling people rally around the mantra, "it's not safe," as they live the most joyless lives. Risk, at any level, is better than plodding fearfully through life, only to die from heart failure because you didn't, "get out there." So, get out there, even if you get hurt or die along the way. Know Jesus and stop worrying.
people died more from covid in a day than isle of man tt!!!!!!!
If you ban whiskey, you need to also ban vodka, gin, tequila and every other bottle behind the bar. It’s not the only dangerous sport and those that participate do so willingly. We should always strive to be better at managing risks, but to stop sporting events just because they are dangerous would be to erode our sense of adventure and what it really means to be human.
I promise you this: the people engaged in road racing are living life absolutely to the full at every moment they do what they do. Some spend the rest of the year engaged in other road races, mostly in Northern Ireland. In the off season, they train, some do media, some have other jobs & trades. Nobody is press ganged into it. I have huge regard & respect for them. Leave them be.
As long as it's voluntary and not mandated under a rider's contract, let it be. Otherwise, I'd say ban it and history be damned. It's impossible to bring it up to the safety standards of dedicated race tracks. For motorbike excitement, MotoGP is hard to beat, with passing within 6" of another rider, both leaning at insane angles.
Did I hear right? The 1937 race was won by a Honda? Not possible.
The Isle of Man is outlaw territory.
God bless them…
It's Russian roulette on two wheels!
One of my Family’s friend crashed there
And the dumb thing is, it'll be people who don't even watch racing who are whinging about it. It has history, more people die on the roads every minute than they have in the history of Isle of Man. These riders know the risk and know what the potential is
Safety never takes risks and kills the human spirit, only those who takes risks can live a 100% of life.
No man, has the right to tell another man, how to live.
Peace ✌
Well…. Captain Safety can try to ban the TT but he can also, to put it plainly, just fuck off.
20 mph national speed limit. LMAO 🤣 🤣 🤣
Great Parallels / Analogies ..
I agree, and salute you.
