1700miles in a Tiny Speedboat – part 20

Goodwin is a 1977 Avon Searider, a tiny 4m rib. Starting in London we’ve been heading clockwise around the UK, four years later and we’re still going. With the hole in the hull all patched up we head out into the dangerous Scottish waters of the Pentland Firth. Passing Stroma and John O’Groats we finally start heading South along the East Coast of Scotland. We stop in at Wick, Berridale, Cromarty and take in the wonders of the Whaligoe steps.

In this Episode i’m joined by regular co-pilot Charlie. A very big thanks to the Support team for all the hours behind the wheel of the Renault.

Big thanks to Stephen Jardine on BBC Radio Scotland for his expert recommendations on places to go and to Wick Harbour master Ian for not throwing the camera cards in the bin.

  1. Adventures you dream of as a boy. It may seem trite but to see you pursue this to close over the last few years is pretty incredible. Been watching since day 1 when you were hacking insulation out off that ship. Myself and my wife were throwing insulation into our old new home. Before our two delights came along. Love your channel , bless xx can't wait to see you cross the Thames.

  2. I don't know why but you make it look like you have all the time in the world. No work, no trains, no Tesco, no school runs; just camping, villages, bays, coves and the sea.

  4. I find it bonkers I started watching this when I was 19… 4 years later I’m 23 and despite the huge changes in my life one thing feels the same. Sat watching Goodwin and its tales, and for that 30 minutes an hour however long it is I think about nothing but this!

  5. Awesome … been following the journey since the start. Just brilliant footage and narrative. I can only imagine the cold shudder when you realised you’d lost the cards … well worth a bottle of the good stuff πŸ‘

  6. Incredible scenery. Love it when Charlie goes with, he's in through thick and thin. The dejection in your voice and elation later on. Wow, I actually found myself shouting aloud for joy when you discovered the cards were ok! Such a great trip.
