Iâm actually really really excited for this game. Itâs gonna be definitely different from the sims but thatâs good because the sims need more competition
Looking extremely coquette today Simsie!
I agree that the Paras and the backgrounds have different textures, but I think it works.
Not that it's the same style, but the "mismatched" styles reminds me of the TV show, Disenchantment – the backgrounds of that show are all beautiful, soft artful watercolor pieces, but the character styles are zany cartoons.
But it just works.
I think mismatched styles can really work when it's clear that it's being done intentionally (and Paralives reads very intentional in this regard).
I really like the art style of Paralives! I can definitely see myself using it just as much as the Sims. I think a decent solution to the Free DLC is to open donations if people want to give some money towards them / keeping the patreon available so that paying patrons can help influence the future DLC!
This is more like a SimCity and Cities Skylines situation
I'm dubious of anyone who promises free expansions or free something – if they want to have a one and done game? Then sure – release it as a complete package and you're good. But if there's going to be continuing development and expansions and new content? That has to be funded somehow. There's nothing "wrong" with game companies making money to pay their staff to put out the games we play – it's only wrong when the companies get predatory (like obscenely expensive microtransactions, or expansions that are really not worth the pricetag).
I'll definitely be checking this out, but I'm going to press X to doubt that there won't be ANY costs for expansions or new content after the original game is released.
I cannot wait for Paralives. I've been obsessed since I saw the first video where they dragged windows to change the size. I've been playing life Sims since 2000, and as they say, variety is the spice of life. I adore how the paras look. I hadn't noticed the dissonance between the paras and the build mode until you pointed it out though đ I'm also really looking forward to seeing what you do with the build tools.
When It comes to LBY, they are working with a publisher. Publisher probably set the terms for release. When release approaches and they're not happy with where it's at, they reschedule. I don't think the LBY team has a ton of say in the matter, and I think it's unfair to judge them by it. If they can avoid crunch and mooch off paradox, then I say go ahead. What matters is that people's computers don't explode on early access đ
for it to be 5 years ago when this started, i definitely believe itâll be realeased in 2025 (with bugs and missing features as stated.) as promised.
Im not looking for a game to kill the sims, the sims is…well the sims. Lots of sims fans are casual fans and many of them have only played the sims 4 so ofc theyre still supporting it and dont realize how much better previous installastions are, but i hope if more life sim games come out the competition will make ea open their eyes a little. But no matter how successful other games are i doubt thatll happen. But that being said im very exicted for paralives im also a patron and all the details theyve shared have made me so happy. And i dont think you were mean you raised valid concerns and shared your opinion very kindly even about stuff you didnt like.
I agree the aesthetic of the avatars and the live mode doesn't match. They are both cute but they look from different games. I'm also aiming for Paralives!
So far, I'm getting the impression that Paralives – small dev team and all – will do to the lifesim genre that Cities Skylines did with the city simulation genre. EA totally ruined what they had with their release of SimCity (5) and Paradox's entry into a genre EA all but dominated at the time ended the SimCity series in the end.
Whether it is Paralives or Life by You, I think it's possible we will see the beginning of the end of The Sims once one of these games launches.
I like the character style. Itâs very illustrative. Iâm not wild about the world art style.
I vote yes on a 2nd half to this video where we conquer the last 4 parts of the challenge!
this is off topic but i really like Kayla's green top đ„ș
To me it seems too much like a phone game. Itâs focused on doing simple tasks and âlevelingâ up.
Idk to me all these new games are still missing the fact that the sims isnât just a simple simulation game, itâs a LIFE simulation. I predict this game, Life By You, and Inzoi will become boring quickly, especially since Inzoi also seems to only be focusing on âlevelingâ up.
Do we know if this will be available on Mac?
(This isnât directed at Kayla) I have found that Simmers, since many of us rarely play outside of the genre, struggle to understand that just because one game comes out it doesnât mean the most popular one needs to be âcrushed.â As someone who also plays MMOs, RPGs, FPS, and MOBAS, this seems to be very unique to the sims community. We also seem to struggle with the concept of early access and indie games and not having micro transactions, since we are so centered on EA, which is known to everyone to be an incredibly greedy company even by AAA standards. I think everyone just needs to take it easy, see this for what it is, and enjoy the fact that we have another game to play without expecting it to be identical to or entirely different from the sims franchise.
1:49 she watched the renee rapp snl… what a queen
the problem is if you have no paid expansions or content how does the game carry on making money once most people interested in it have bought it. The people working on it we presume need wages of some kind. I wouldn't mind paying for expansions, they don't need to be as expensive as The Sims, which used the end of physical disks as an excuse to put prices up and control them more. That made me cross. I think at that point it went from making us a great game to play to us purely being a source of money for EA. I am remaining hopeful one at least of these promising games lives up to to that promise. .
I'm looking forward to what the next gen Sims going to look like. Paralives looks ok but i didn't get too excited for it. Probably need to see more gameplay.
Hi uhh, it sounds to me there's a bit of reverberation around 450Hz, that might be result of the microphone casing, the desk it's sitting on (if it is,) or even the room. Noticed it recurring over a number of videos, so it didn't feel right not saying something as it was easy to get distracted by it. Love your content <3
I definitely thought paralives was a play on the word parasocial? But yours makes more sense
Characters in Paralives: "I don't fit in. And I don't want to fit in."
Just a pet peeve but the dollar sign being after all the money amounts is stressing me out đ
great video, Kayla. i totally agree with the expectation setting and think you spoke really well to that.
i never get why people always compare these life sims games to sims as if sims is the ideal, i think theyâre just trying to make a side sim game not competing or anything
i think there is a bit misinformation, dreamlight valley has actually said there will be paid DLC after early access right from the start
I don't know why but its giving Life is Strange: True Colours
I actually like how the paras are different from the surroundings. In the end it's still you imagining how they live and you tell their story. So I fell like it's appropriate not to have them so realistic.
i think if the characters had shadows that may help the integration into the world but apart from lighting i canât see any easier fixes. still gorgeous though
I so so SO hope it's receptive to CC. I want to make so many cute clothes đ
As someone who is super sensitive about style discrepancy within media (lookin' at you, Alpha CC), the contrast between the Paras and the world doesn't bother me one iota. It just works for me. There's enough softness to the world that the Paras don't stand out in a bad way. I think them being slightly more cartoony also adds to the almost comic book-y feelings that I get from it, aided by the broad scale social options. I'm really excited for this game to come out. I was burned for pre-ordering TS4, so I might hold off on buying it immediately after pre-release, but I'm very much looking forward to it
Your excitement is contagious !! I've wishlisted the game and will probably buy it a few months into early access just so I know what I'm getting into haha
I thought it was called "Paralives" because of Parasocial relationships.
"Parasocial relationships are one-sided relationships, where one person extends emotional energy, interest and time, and the other party, the persona, is completely unaware of the other's existence." Too accurate for a sims type game haha
The name is definitely interesting, it doesnât sound like someone is saying âparalyzeâ at all.
The sims might try and lower prices or make more of their packs and kits free or maybe theyâll listen to the players for once and improve the game the way we want it to be. Maybe if their hand is forced, theyâll actually try to fix some concerns
Itâs amazing that they want to do free DLC but my concern is are they just going to work for free? How will they be compensated for all the work they do?
