Been wanting to tackle this one for a bit, and now had a good opportunity to. This is 9 Years of Shadows. A very unique metroidvania title to come out a bit of time after Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth. Although was potentially in development for about the same period or so? I’m not sure but this was a kickstarter game I wasn’t aware of.
In either case we follow the escapades of Europa as she tries to end a nine year long curse that’s been plaguing the land and has traced the origin to this location. After nearly being defeated by a monster, we’re joined by a small ghost named Apino who offers unique mechanics in regards to being a actually useful companion. (The fact you can hug him for health was basically a marketing deal in one of the trailers.) We explore around the first area and find mostly everything we need to get going, defeating one of the first mini bosses and start on our way to get the final upgrade of the game along with a first bar upgrade.

An interesting game I have never come across before. Love the aesthetic and excited to see where things go from here. I cannot say that I expected the first person we meet to be a member of an orchestra…
