U.S. Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle testified during a congressional hearing Monday about the agency’s failure to protect presidential nominee Donald Trump during a rally earlier this month. Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, fired multiple shots from a nearby rooftop, striking the former president in the ear and killing at least one civilian. Since the shooting, there have been multiple allegations of mismanagement. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber breaks down the top revelations from Cheatle’s testimony.

I feel she was hung out to dry somewhat – though her mistake was to try to hang on to her job. Did congress really expect her to diviluge in public senstive information such as the name of the agent in charge and the numbers and type of assets assigned to protecting the former president? Some of the language used and insults hurled were disgraceful – to her credit she bit her tongue and did not bite. I'm sure she was provided with the questions beforehand and took legal advice. Leaking her opening statement to the press was probably in hindsight not a great idea.

Cheatle's total imability to properly prepare for a Congressional Hearing only serves to document that she has an inability to properly prepare for anything…like protecting our national leaders lives. She is not qualified to run security at a grocer store exit checkpoint verifing customer receipts. How did she get that job. It obviously wasn't awarded to her based on merit. Congress keeps asking the same series of questions without ever letting her make a complete statement. They cut her off and do another trick question. I would still be a bit puzzled to what really happened, but she is also trying to keep discretion since the case is still ongoing with investigation. Most of what they are trying to ask is illegal in the first place so it's beginning to sound a lot like that familiar party that always keeps us divided.
