70 per cent of Australian seafood consumption ‘comes from overseas’

Liberal Party Defence and National Security Policy Chair Lincoln Parker says 70 per cent of the seafood that Australians consume “comes from overseas”.

Mr Parker told Sky News host Erin Molan that the seafood is “imported” into the country through trade.

“It’s insane because it’s cheaper.

“It’s cheaper obviously to buy cheap Chinese seafood.

“We’re going to be eating Chinese seafood that’s caught under horrible conditions.”

  1. So much coastline in Australia and 70% of seafood is imported… Thats just weird! Give some cheap fuel to your fishermen and get your own fishingfleet up and running, food-security in times of crisis is essential for national security. You cannot get too dependent on CCP helping you out.

  2. I heard this years ago in a fish and chip shop from a lady in the queue. She asked where the fish came from and told me to also ask when in restaurants. I’ve been doing it ever since.

  4. Australia needs to be self-sufficient with their food supplies. They need to find ways to harness and divert all their flood waters into useful water reserves. Australia is choking on its own potential and one day you will elect a leader who will take full advantage of those untapped potentials.

  5. I don't want to buy Chinese anything, unless there's no other option.
How the h-e-double-toothpicks did we here where this island nation with pristine water around us, and generations of fishing families has to import 70% of our edible seafood?
