The most I paid for a record was 30 dollars for Elvis 30 number 1 hits. Also paid 25 dollars for The Rising by Bruce Springsteen. Ye records are expensive nowadays unless you go to a goodwill store or thrift store or a music store with records on sale. Most records that come out nowadays are usually a 2 LP set.
I am out now when it comes to new vinyl. The prices now are insane & considering most are cut from digital files you might as well buy the CD (Even those are getting expensive) Hope you had a good birthday 👍

The increased pricing could reduce the over all demand. Which could lead to the vinyl mfgs cutting their own throats. It also depends on what is causing the increased prices. If it is inflation andor increased cost in materials then they may be stuck like a rock in a hard place. Personally, I would not pay more the forty USD for a standard double album.
I've purchased vinyl for anywhere from $17.99-$80.00USD I love music on vinyl but if there is an album that with a cool cover I have to have I'd be willing to pay more.
Yeah.. the price of vinyl now has kinda turn me off from any of the new releases nowadays. It has even affected thrift store prices to the point where thrift stores won’t even sort through the records before putting it out on the floor. Leading to piles of just plain garbage out there.

Unfortunately it is part of the offer and demand. There are less pressing plant for LP's. They can't do as many as in the 80's. Eventually, if the prices still increase, people will turn to CDs. The record companies will get stuck with unsold stock and will have to reduce the price. But I will put the blame on the big record companies. They should start to invest by opening their own pressing plant because they are flooding the already over saturated capacity of existing plants. Fortunately, Sony has reopen one in Japan but the others must do the same. In the mid time, I will slow down my purchasing of vinyl records. I have a few collectors sets one at $184 a 4 discs set and another of 6 at $216 this one mid November.
I'm at the point where I will either go for the vinyl, or stream. Won't buy a CD unless it is not available to stream, or direct from the artist at a concert.

Buying records here in Canada is insane because I refuse to drop more than $25 on one – that's usually double the cd or digital download cost. Worst part is that it is greed like others mentioned because it isn't just your smaller indy labels that are selling for that price, it is your major labels and there is no excuse for that. And we know that it is greed as I just bought a new record from an Amazon warehouse deal that wasn't even opened for $10 where new copies were going for $26 – the prices don't need to be this high but the market supports that. If everyone stopped buying vinyl for a month, watch the price drop but keep supporting $70 albums and you will keep getting $70 albums.
It's absolutely RIDICULOUS that labels have all of the sudden decided that new vinyl should cost 15-20 dollars more than it did previously. They're going to kill the vinyl industry with this, quick as shit.

They're pricing themselves out. I'm not buying at those prices!! Tempted to put my entire collection up for sale while the prices are insane. Now idea how to even afford housing going forward. Greed run a muck

Just opted to pay $11 for the new Dokken CD vs $32 for the vinyl. Also will be buying the new Judas Priest on CD in March. I’m sick of buying new records and having it be a crap shoot as far as sound quality goes. I buy used records that are 40 – 50 years old and they found better than some new records I buy.

Fellow Canadian (and former UbeCube winner 🙂 who is constantly monitoring the fluctuating prices. While there are a few exceptions when shelling out for the occasional audiophile release, based on my history, I generally stick to between $25-$35 CAD for new indie or rock represses…occasionally I've shelled out in the $40 range. To accomplish this the last couple of years, I have purchased almost ALL of my records through my local shop who regularly beat Amazon's prices (+ gave me 10% off)..but even their prices have been creeping up. Lately I'm seeing pre-orders on Amazon (like your Priest) for $50-70 or more. Nope, never.
That said, I've been buying a lot more Near Mint records (from the same shop)…I think from pandemic buyers that either need the money or bought certain records and didn't like them / traded them back in.
That said #2, I continue to use Camelx3 to monitor price thresholds and have occasionally pulled the trigger on "deals'. Also, just this past week, I found 3 records I wanted from Amazon for an avg price of $23 CAD (including Danzig – 6:66: Satan's Child <$20, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger – Midnight Sun and M. Ward – End of Amnesia (20th Anniversary Remastered Edition)…but it takes timing and a bit of luck to stumble across them.
Myself in your position, I wouldn't buy the vinyl nor CD. I would just stream it (or snag a FLAC…) and wait until the vinyl inevitably drops to a much more reasonable price. Cheers!
i’m a vinyl and video game collector for many, many years at this point. I will say that the prices on both are absolutely out of line with financial reality.
@Channel33RPM Go head and pick up the priest record. Think of it this way, if it's 75 now, think of how much it will be if you decide to buy later.
