  2. I need to get around to picking up Engage(also Octopath 2), I've been behind on games this year. It's ok though since I have a neverending backlog and plenty I like to revisit. I'm pretty ok with it taking a step back on story and character interaction after that was so upfront and center in Three Houses. I would like to get another TH style game in the future as well though.

I think I will like but not love Trinity Trigger based on the feedback I've heard about it, I'll probably grab it when it hits that $25-30 range.

I agree on Tales of Symphonia, I've tried several times to playthrough it and never make it through. Last attempt was with the PS3 remaster and I was done.

  3. I don't play nintendo consoles so I've not played the nintendo exclusive titles, but I agree some of your choices. Like Neptunia and other games by Compire heart which are to me, poor quality cheaply made games with their only selling point being for players who like those cute anime girls. I played the PS3 version of Tales of Symphonia and when I saw the PS3 version, they couldn't have been more lazy, they literally did nothing other than adding skip scenes. They also removed DOTW, so clearly some kind of cash grab.

  4. I haven't played the switch exclusives, but I agree with your picks, like the neptunia games and other games by Compile heart for that matter are just cheaply made poor quality games with their only selling point being for players who like cute anime girls, since almost all their games are that. I played the PS3 version of Tales of Symphonia and when I saw the PS4 version, other than adding scene skip they did literally nothing, and removed DOTW on top of it. It was a clear cash grab with zero effort, especially as it's a very dated title they could have improved a lot in it.

  5. I appreciate your video so much. I will save my money I would have spent on Neptunia and use it on Trails from Azure instead. It’s a shame because I am a Neptunia fan but don’t need another Goddesses Online clone. Thank you!

  7. You lost me at Tales At Symphonia not being a good game but you brought me back when you said Octopath Traveler 2 was game of the year so far because I agree that game is incredible.

  8. WOW that Tales of Symphonia take is scalding hot! I had to pause the video after that. I know the port is bad, but once we get to the "Was this game EVER good?" discussion, we might wanna take a step back.
I mean, its mostly Namco's fault, they really aren't doing their IPs any favors. Like releasing that Klonoa compilation with (probably) no intention of making a new game ever. Just milking the desperate fans for another decade.

  9. As someone who really does not like the story of Trails of Cold Steel, I really wonder if Trails to Azure will be a step up. I'd have to start with Trails from Zero, but I just have doubts about the story being improved that much cause Cold Steel is a disaster story wise IMO. I'm a big fan of the gameplay though!

I've also got Atelier Ryza 1 in the backlog and am looking to get into that series. Glad to hear the series keeps improving as it goes on!

Edit: Reading these comments, that Symphonia take got people heated!! It is a pretty hot one, but in 2023 I think someone who had never played it before might have trouble getting into it. As someone who loves the game, it's hard to deny the combat is pretty stiff and limited compared to Arise or Xillia.

Symphonia is my favorite Tales game partly due to its simple and satisfying combat, but I also think the overall story is the best in the series. The characters aren't the strongest overall (there's too many of them) but I do think they are all great and well written. I would say Graces and Xillia have stronger characters overall.

But to frame my opinion, I have to say that I hated Berseria's gameplay to the point where I could not finish it. Arise has fun gameplay when enemies can enter hit-stun (so boss battles are generally awful) and the story wasn't very strong in my opinion. I didn't think any of the characters in Arise were very well written in the end and the story just falls apart by the 4th realm.

Point is, it's all difference in opinion! I don't think it discredits you if you dislike Symphonia. Not every game is a hit for every person. It's a scalding hot take, but people gotta chill!
