4 TRACKS 1 TAPE "I Am A Nightingale"

February Album Writing Month: https://fawm.org

“I Am A Nightingale” was co-written written and recorded during February 2022, by physically mailing a cassette tape from the United Kingdom to the United States as part of the FAWM four-track challenge. Four “fawmers” contributed one track each, using old-school analog four-track tape decks, and this video tells the story of how the song evolved…

★ THE LYRICS ★
I am a nightingale
I am a blackbird in the night
I am a melody
here to tell you it will be alright
alright

I am a speck of truth
I am the grey between black and white
I am living proof
thats seeds grow into forests full of might
alright

I am a mystery
I am a rainbow in the storm
I am the fire in your heart that keeps you warm
I am a passing wave
I am a beacon full of light
I am a window to the world and its delight

I am the morning mist
I am a whisper in the night
I am a messenger
here to tell you it will be alright

  1. Wonderful editing and wonderful performances throughout. It was such a joy to be a part of this song. Such a solid bass line holding it all down and the melodica makes it so fun. If the tape had gotten to me sooner (dark postal system!!) I would have 100% gone with glockenspiel, which sounded very cool against the bass/melodica. This would have been a really different song. As it is, I think I am happier with this song. Solid pop song with meaningful lyrics. The vocals and guitar just pulled everything together so well. Wonderful top to bottom!! Thanks to all of you and for Burr for the incredible editing. 🙂

  2. Great collaboration. The blocs the vibe with this song. I do enjoy watching these fly in the wall videos. I am hoping to get a 4 track cassette recorder for next FAWM and start an Asian contribution.

  3. This is a really cool concept and execution. Song came out groovin' at the end too! The only critique I have (which is more of a personal opinion) is I wish you kept the mixing stage constrained to a portastudio. End result woulda sounded rougher for sure but there's something in that type of production I always had an affliction too. It would be interesting to see the end result difference if you did both ways to compare.

All musicians did a grade A+ job too. Stellar stuff.
