#33 | growing up PIXAR

Christine Riccio & Natasha Polis talk all things nerdy in the book, tv, movie, pop culture, fandoms, and how they integrate into their adult lives. Today they’re chatting all things PIXAR. Favorites, least favorites, most quotable lines, most memorable characters. Plus they chat Taylor Swift news, Olivia Rodrigo, Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Blood and Ash series, Superman casting news and more! And this week in Chapter Chat we venture into chapters 3 and 4 of A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas.

  1. I think my favorite shorts are the chess game in front of A Bug’s Life and showed up again in Toy Story 2 in 1999 fixing up Woody. I also enjoy the short 1 Man Band.

  2. I prefer Finding Dory over Finding Nemo. I liked that Finding Nemo made me sympathize with Dory. I also related to the disability story more in Finding Dory more than the Finding Nemo story.

  3. I liked Toy Story 4. Jessie is at her best in Toy Story 4. I feel like Buzz Lightyear took a few back steps in Toy Story 4 compared to where his character had been developed in previous stories.

  4. Lightyear did not even feel like Buzz Lightyear story. The problem is that film broke chronological story established in the early 2000’s cartoon show Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. At least that cartoon show helped to expand the universe and was good show with great comedy. The Lightyear film actually shrunk the universe by making it not being about the universe. The film Lightyear also makes no sense with what was established in Toy Story 2.

  5. I loved Onward. I saw Onward twice before the Covid shut down and Onward was the last film I saw in theaters before the Covid Shutdown happened. I saw it a second time 2 days before theaters were closed and it was unique experience seeing how empty the theaters were before it closed. I loved the musical score for that film. It has a nice diverse sounding film with the fantasy and metal sounds.

  6. Watching this I realize I'm so much more opinionated then I thought about Pixar movies 💕 like truly opinionated!! Also because pixar movies are wonderful in different levels I can see where sometimes people appreciate those levels and sometimes they go over people's heads including me so I want to do some rewatching now! Soul is much deeper then you all realize is the one opinion I will share since I could go down a long list lol 🎉 see you all in forks 😉

  8. i love that natasha talked about loving the Blood and Ash series. i love that series but everyone gives it such shit that I feel weird talking about it anymore. it isnt the best written thing, sure. but its SO MUCH FUN and so engaging. i love the relationships… but YESS the titles are so dumb they make me giggle every time. i cant take it haha. i actually hate that A Soul of Ash and Blood has the 'blood and ash' inverted. If you're going to reuse words just call it A Soul of Blood and Ash.
