I believe that forbidding this knowledge just makes things worse in the end. I believe all force users need to learn about both th e light and the dark,that way they can find their balance within the force
I will never stop loving the star wars universe. However, the more I learn about out, the more I find that it is often a gloomy and depressing place.
I think the answer can be found in the Dawn of the Jedi novel. When a force user (Je'daii at the time) ventures too far to the dark or light, they are to meditate on the opposing end of the spectrum until balance is restored. Due to the pursuit of balance, the je'daii would openly practice dark and light aspects of the force with alchemy as the only "art" being frowned upon despite the importance of it. Though, it was still practiced, especially when forging swords for the je'daii use. Funnily enough, it's this era that force users seem to be at their best and also at their highest all-round potential. The eras depicted after show how both the jedi and sith have gone into extremes, effectively limiting and weakening themselves. Those fully immersed in the darkside have difficulties with controlling emotions along with healing and other positive powers; and also find the light to be generally restricting because they don't carry the balance of light and dark. Jedi often have difficulty sympathizing or even empathizing with others while also being inable to tap into the full potential of the force as a whole because of their strict adherence to the light. This also makes it to where the dark side always feels violent and out of control. Probably the primary way this shows isn't through force powers, but in the force users mental stability. Modern Jedi are emotionally stunted because they're taught their emotions all lead to the darkside. Due to this, many of them come off as borderline sociopathic and uncaring. The Sith suffer from the exact opposite issue. They allow themselves to feel everything, unrestricted. This seems good at first, except there's very little control; and because most of the emotion is negative (anger, hate, ect.) they often come off as violent or even psychopathic. Neither side knows how to properly confront and come to terms with their emotions. The Je'daii seem to be the most mentally stable as they both embrace and come to terms with their emotions, and they even had some of the Sith species in their order. By comparison, they're the closest thing to being a normal person with force powers. This is on top of having the best all-round force potential. It's best stated in 'Dawn of the Jedi: Void,' "a Je'daii who strays to far to the light or dark, is no Je'daii at all."

The Jedi are ruled by fear, making it their initial dismissal of Ani so hypocritical.
In the real world we can look to religion to work out my thought on the Jedi and the Sith. Whatever side you decide to follow and why, when the dogma followed leads to extremism the groups in question and everyone in their orbit will fall.
The qustian my young jedi frend… Is not ho started what or way, but this flawed philosophy that the jedi keeps so close to thery heard : killing is wrong! – but when i do it, its "for the greater good" now is this the mindset u would see in a "good person"??? ….. The truth is that the jedi only hords power " to safe gard it" – only to be studiet by the oldest/council ( those ho have power) and spendt most of thery time holding people back and/or in place, by pretending to help but not realy fixing enything!! Remember, Remember… It is the winner who writes the story!!! Not the good ones

I believe the factor that led to the 3 great schisms was they're paranoia in the temptation of the Dark Side that led to be so cemented in the light side. Had they maintained their original customs in studying both the Light and Dark side of the Force I imagine the Star Wars history would be quite different.
I think the paranoia makes it worse. Making it forbidden makes it harder to teach people to examine it without losing themselves to it, and making them feel like there's no going back for dabbling in it at all becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Better to dip a toe or two in it, understand it's nature, and draw back to a more balanced and informed position than to leave people thinking there's a false dichotomy and thus push all who falter fully into the darkness.
