Soldiers are thugs, just like cops, for whatever governing body controls them. That is it. Good or bad has nothing to do with it. Soldiers kill good people by accident, and on purpose depending on the one commanding the soldiers.
As for your last comments on disappointment in the soldiers because it'd only been a month, let me just say this. I have been in a few conflict zones and rather desperate places. When government services, power and water supply, etc. collapse, it only takes about a week (maybe) to see just how thin the veneer of "civilized man" is, and just how quickly man can revert to his potential for brutality and beastiality toward other mankind.
I remember when movies like these seemed the the scariest worse case scenarios. And then the elected Joe Biden. And now this movie seems like Disneyland, in comparison to our current reality.
i loved the sociological aspects and themes and character development in this film, its definitely one of my favourites. Alex Garland's writing and Danny Boyle's directing is pure gold.
This movie begins in London. There are several military museums in London, including the extensive armory of medieval arms and armor in the Tower of London.
Yet no one thinks to go get a few swords, shields or armor plate? Sure, they might not fit all that well, but they'd be a whole lot better than nothing.

Morning Dasha
Fucking PETA.
is patient scarecrow on batman?
The way the rats run from the infected really ups the scary factor…. A much more grounded contagion movie than most and probably better for it.
Thanks, Dasha, for your reaction to this.
"Nigh" means "near" or "close at hand", just so you know.
