Such an ugly movie. They should have just used proper cameras even if it was a hassle.
Some not so scary movie recommendations for you: Misery, Delores Claiborne, The Myst, Vertigo
Cassie watch "Ravenous"…you won't be dissapointed 😉
Try ‘Dr Jekyll and mr Hyde…1931.
You should check out "The Last Man On Earth" (1964) starring Vincent Price. It's a better adaptation of "I Am Legend".
The novel "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson is groovy as well.
You should do a reaction to Ladder 49…. It is a great movie and I've noticed no one has reacted to this movie you could be the first
those animal rights activists remind of the idiots that released ferrets at a ferret farm some time ago (all the ferrets ran into a canal and drowned….horrible "answer" to a horrible situation)
Not sure if it was mentioned yet, but the guy who plays Frank looks familiar because it's Brendan Gleeson, who played Hamish in Braveheart
you need to see "Dracula: Dead and Loving It"
I watched this in the theater 20 years ago. It was not a zombie flick like others that came before it, but it was helluva disturbing.
U need to do 28 weeks later now
I don't think i've seen another film where the actors are so on board, it's a low budget film relatively speaking, i wouldn't call $8 million a low amount of money, but it was used extremely well and the director played to his and the actors strengths, these aren't the performances you expect from a "low budget" movie.
Your observation at the end, about it being an independent film, is quite astute. This film, back in 2000/2001 cost $8m to make, and generated over $80m at the box office. It was made by Danny Boyle, who is a bit of a legend in hit own right, he also directed The Beach, Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting, as well as being the guy behind the 2012 London Olympic Opening ceremony.
When you consider the locations shown in the film, deserted central London, London Bridge, major motorways and more, then you begin to appreciate the genius and efficiency with which the film was made. The background information about the making of, is quite interesting, and highlights how innovative it was.
Danny Boyle famously walked out of a key meeting with the James Bond owners, most likely because of the intended plot in No Time To Die, to kill off Bond, but that's a story for another time.
This and Shaun of the Dead are the only zombie movies I've ever actually liked. I think the reason is what you pointed out, this is not a normal zombie movie. The zombies aren't the main thing that's scary, it's having to survive in that world without knowing who you can trust, and it isn't just never-ending fear and anxiety.
Unfortunately there are certainly some men who are currently only holding back their violent (particularly SA) tendencies because of the rules we have in society and, when that society collapses, they'd almost immediately revert to their base desires (give them a few days to realize that the rules they were operating under before no longer apply), and it seems very, very reasonable that the military would attract those types of people (it's probably one of the main reasons behind the reluctance to allow women to serve). There's a long and shameful history of military invaders and occupiers SAing the women and girls of the people they invade and, though officially condemned, it continues to this day. The military part of the story is probably the second most believable part of this (after the world quarantining Great Britain, mostly just ignoring what's going on, and continuing life as normal).
One of my favorite horror flicks. It's so well done and the grainy, realistic style it's shot in only makes it more intense. It also has one of my absolutely favorite film scores. The sequel is also really good. I hope they can wrap up the trilogy one day.
The scariest part of that movie for me is when Jim falls in the forest after escaping the firing squad, and from his back he sees a plane traveling over Britain. The sheer hopelessness in seeing that plane, then harboring doubt if those "reports" of the virus spreading to Paris and New York were actually true, and the slow realization that the rest of the world was just out there living their lives, that all this pain and struggle and loss and hardship that these characters were facing was all falling in deaf ears as people flew around the world with not a care. How this moment, this shot, so easily encompassed the theme of maintaining your humanity in total adversity by illustrating the true villain of the film: apathy, and simply not caring to even lift a finger to help your fellow human. That shot crushed me. In that moment Jim realized that he and the others were on their own not because of circumstances, but because no one could be bothered to help.
Sadly. In a war, army men are like that no matter what nationality you are. They became evil during wars, but then when the war its over. They go back to their country acting like a gentleman and being worshiped like a hero.
I don't know what the scariest movie ever is, but I think with some of the movies you've been watching this year … you're at least in the neighborhood. Also, I think this movie kind of introduced the idea of "fast zombies" and yes, I think it was a low budget film. There is a sequel, however, called 28 weeks later that had a bit more of a budget.
I’m pretty sure if frank had lived, the soldiers would’ve killed him once the plan was shown. Pretty sure frank would’ve probably killed at least one solider. He was a big man.
Such a great movie. One of the choices director Danny Boyle made was to deliberately shoot parts of the movie on digital video camcorders, and sometimes from a locked off fixed position, to give the effect of almost documentary footage or something captured by a security camera on the scene. Also, I think the original ending idea was to have Jim die – which would have been too brutal and just cruel. You really really need that upbeat ending.
If you want to push the phycological aspect coupled with shear terror at times bordering on the possibility that it could actually happen, give "Quarantine" a try. You'll never forget it.
Would you consider doing a review reaction on "Earnest Scared Stupid" for Halloween?
They filmed the opening scene in London at 04.00 am every day to get the abandoned look ,not bad for a low budget horror 👌😃
The movie was filmed on video as it was quicker to set up and film the closed off film locations.
The sequel is great (and filmed traditionally).
I had thought the 28 days and all hope lost felt too fast but after being in a pandemic and seeing the way people fell into depression in a couple of months of being in isolation and the fight against masks and people "I can't breathe with masks" comments I can now see how little most people would be able to endurein a good mental state
It was a lower budget, but probably also somewhat by choice. Many of the best horror films, esp the older ones, had a lower budget, grittier feel.
zombie movies are so over done and they're all the same, boring.
Very low budget early Danny Boyle movie, check out 28 wks later 👌😃
Frank is Mad Eye Moody from Harry Potter, that’s probably why he looks familiar.
This movie is too violent for an innocent half-elf from Narnia that's just discovering movies for the first time.
The thing about this movie is that it's really good from a dramatic standpoint. It isn't just a great horror movie, it's a great movie in general. Also, you should react to The Babadook.
There’s 28 weeks later movie to follow.
"The Ghost and Mrs Muir" 1947
I love your innocent, no offense, and honest reactions!
You should for sure watch Zombieland
You're aware that there's a sequel, right? 28 Weeks Later. Jeremy Renner is one of the big names in it.
Please MISERY
Misery is a fantastic movie!!!
