  1. Between Christmas and New Year we all had covid. Light hurt our eyes, so in low light we played Jacks and Pick up sticks all one evening. Dug out from the bottom of a cupboard

  2. Bushcraft, you brought up duct tape, I have funny story I'd like to share. My dad was notorious for his list of essential items which were always in his pickup, usually scattered on the seats or floors. When my son was little, he would ride around the farm with my dad, always asking what the items were used for. From bits of wire, pliers, electric tape, fencing pliers, WD40, and yes duct tape. When my son was in upper grade school, he was required to participate in a history presentation competition. My son has never been one that goes with the norm or even tries to do what anyone else would do. He always liked doing things differently. He had been thinking about a topic for his history project with no satisfactory idea until he spent a day with my dad. He came in the house and declared that he was going to do his history project on duct tape. I was surprised, and even though his sister was trying to talk him into some topic a little more conventional, you could tell his mind was made up. He set to researching, planning and writing up his project. He would always share with us some interesting fact he learned and I thought he was doing a great job with this little everyday item. One day I got a call from his teacher who thought maybe I could help sway my son to pick another topic. I asked the teacher if he had listened to any part of my son's project, of which he hadn't but maybe a nice war or president would be a better topic. I told the teacher that maybe he should give my son a chance before judging. The day of the history project competition, I nearly fainted..my normally T shirt and jeans with holes kid was dressed in a buttoned down shirt and tie. He gathered up his posters and papers and off to school he went. When he got home from school, he came out to where my dad and I were working and announced that he was one of the winners that will be going on to a state competition. We were so proud of him and I have to admit, a little shocked. He, however, did not look happy. I asked him why he seemed so down. He told me that after the day of being made fun of by other students and the disappointed looks from teachers about his "weird" history project that it kind of ruined the joy of actually winning..oh and the tie was not as comfortable as it should be. My dad stepped in and asked my son who judged these projects. The answer… teachers and people from a college. My dad sat by my son and explained to him that maybe these people from this college, since they were educated and all, knew more about the magic of duct tape than these rinky dink teachers and kids around here. That maybe these educated people were impressed with my son's project and maybe he should go get his work clothes on and be proud of himself because he won with a project that so undervalued by others and to always remember that sometimes the greatest and smartest people get made fun of for their ideas. My son stood up and started walking toward the house, he turned back around and asked, " Grandpa, did you ever get made fun of?". My dad replied, " All the time Buddy, and still do. But I don't let that stop me cause I know what's a good idea in my heart". My son went on to the state competition, he didn't come home with a ribbon or a trophy. He didn't place at all. But…. he DID have in his hand a check for a hundred dollars. One of the judges and his wife who was at the competition were so impressed with my son's unique history project that they decided to award my son a special category award. The man used his own money to write out the check to my son. He was a veteran and he had never seen anyone research how important duct tape was to the military and since my son had a portion of his project that told about that, the man was impressed. My dad was soo proud of my son that day. He asked my son if he still felt bad about all the teasing he had gone through. My son looked at my dad and said, those kids made so much fun of my project but look who is laughing now Grandpa, all the way to the bank!!. From that day on, my son has always had courage to do the different project. When my dad passed away, my son talked about the duct tape project and said he got the whole idea from my dads little pile of survival items but that he would never have had the courage to continue if it wasn't for my dads little pep talk. My son is now 26 yrs old. Whenever I go somewhere with him in his vehicle… I have to share the seats and floors with… bits of wire, tools, Jack's, pliers, papers, how to books, nuts, bolts, gloves and yes…duct tape. And as much as I cuss him for having a hardware store in his car, I also tear up because he is carrying on that part of my dad that I miss so much.

  3. Bushcraft….I would add a pack of JB Weld…it is awesome! It is a two part mix. You can get Regular Set or Kwik Set. I prefer Kwik Set. Hardens quickly to a rock hard, metal hard repair. Can be filed, drilled, tapped, etc. Repair probabilities are endless!!! Thanks for the video, learned some new things. Stay safe out there.

  4. Duct tape ! Canada's comedy cult classic "The Red Green Show" !
Every show had a project Red would figure out with duct tape. Still find the shows on YouTube.
As Red would say, "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy !". 😁👍
BTW if you live in the country you need a "well bucket" that allows you to open your well and bring up around a gallon and a half each time.

  5. Sunscreen is often overlooked or ignored and having had skin cancer 3 times, I can tell you, you don’t realize how important it is until it’s too late.
Good list and I’m really glad you included the sunscreen. There were several on the list that I had not considered. Thanks.

  6. When it comes to dental floss one may want to get the unflavored kind for multiple uses. With the board games we all know to get ones that one will enjoy playing which leads to having a variety to choose from. Then playing cards, it's good to have multiple decks on hand. Just added thoughts.

  8. add a couple of small pulleys for the cordage. Grab a couple of $3 pulleys from walmart. they're only about 1×3" and can be used as a pulley (obviously), weight/counter-weight, etc…
