Pastor Scott Craig gives a bird’s eye summary of both books to the Thessalonians before delving into 1st Thessalonians. The Apostle Paul was prompted to write these books because the Thessalonians had adopted a premise that Jesus was going to return ANY DAY. Therefore, there was no need to engage in anything but wait and watch for His arrival. No work or other activities that had any benefits for the future need be done.
We know that Jesus could come any day NOW, yet, we need to work until He returns. That includes “fishing for men (and women and children)” as you go along the way.
