ULTIMANIA MADNESS! Hope you liked today's episode Sick-O's and Normies! Plenty more to come!
Missed the live stream. Looking forward to jumping into this
Just a quick comment. I think the ending talk is dev speak. They literally said they finished the main scenario as of early February and will begin voice recording. Hard to incorporate fan feedback in that situation
Firstly thank you for covering this so thoroughly. I love this game from playing OG as a 15 year old at release and your passion for it comes through to fans like me and is appreciated.
Regarding this story leading into Advent Children, I thought the devs have been careful about that wording and mostly said it will 'link up' to Advent Children. I think this wording is purposeful in that the ending of this trilogy may not chronologically lead into AC, but rather will prove to be 'linked' to AC via something like a time-looping of Sephiroth's and maybe Aerith's consciousness coming back from post AC through the lifestream to the start of Remake. Just a thought; but it seems like a likely possibility to me that the final conclusion will differ from the original game in some ways and not necessarily be book-ended by AC time-wise.
Also, I'm not sure you're correct in your ruling out that Aerith is a living person at the end appearing to Cloud beside the Tiny Bronco. I'm fairly convinced she actually is alive there, but within an alternate world that only Cloud perceives at the end (because he made that branch world with the masamune parry and was alone inside the boundary of fate/whisper wall when it was formed hence why rest of party can't see her). I know you maybe don't subscribe to the theory that there are actual living alternate worlds in play here, but I think in some capacity there are even if all but the prime one are temporary and linked via the lifestream rather than strictly akin to purgatories within it. Lots of end details like Aerith saying 'I saw what you did back there Cloud, thank you', Zack entreating us to 'save her' with his parting words to Cloud (save what if she's just dead?) and Cloud alone seeing the telltale scar in the sky just as he sees Aerith which I think evidence a survived Aerith in a branch reality/world that only Cloud can perceive. I think Cloud also is in denial about Aerith's death as you say that the party experiences in the main reality, but ironically and further complicatedly really seeing her alive this alternate world~ a nugget of truth in Cloud's delusion if you will much like his prescence in Nibelheim, but a as a masked Shinra trooper was in OG.
Maybe way off, but I really do suspect once Cloud finds his real self in part 3, that he and party will realize there is a living Aerith to work towards rejoining in that other world and I suspect that for at least part of the next game, if not through the conclusion she'll be alive and with the party again. Hell, her living this time around might actually be what stops Sephiroth being able to cyclically return via Cloud's inability to to forget Seph with his grief and guilt over Aerith as AC showed us. Maybe corny writing, but her survival might be needed to cap this story off with a final victory over Sephiroth where Cloud can truly forget him. Will everyone like that? idk, but it could be written well to me and at least seems possible.
Maybe the seventh world is a "Seventh Heaven" of sorts? lol
For me, i think the very important thing could be the highwind scene but thats just my humble opinion. It could be possible that the implication that Cloud and Tifa sleeping together could be a reality. obviously they cannot show a sex scene, but they can simply have Cloud come out of a tent when the sun rises and Tifa right after. I do like the idea of a definitive ending to Final Fantasy 7. The OG was open ended, but to see a true ending would be great and emotional at the same time.
