The CIA armed and financed Bin Laden and the mujahideen in the 1980's who became the Taliban. What goes around comes around for imperial powers (i.e. USA and USSR) but the Afghan people are the ones left to pick up the pieces.
State-building in a place like Afghanistan will always be doomed to failure. Perhaps a better strategy would have been breaking the country up into smaller states based on the various ethnic groups in the country.

Americans justify this invasion but oppose Russia’s. Hypocrisy at it’s finest.
I was opposed the Canada's involvement from the very beginning. The Soviets had just had there asses kicked there, the last in a line of invaders. I saw no reason to think that NATO's involvement would be any different. The Brits, of all nations, should have known what happens to those who try to conquer the Afghans. In addition, the purported reason for going there made no sense to me.

Ask G W BUSH who drag your arses to a country who never attacked you first place. Canadian military had no reason to be in Afghanistan, but to be used like dogs by the American. It was all war created by weapons manufacturers to make money by killing innocent Afghanis, and destroying Iraq which was a stable country, and now we can all see the results of that wars. Even G W Bush called himself an evil by himself Woow. I wonder how does one man feels about this war who asked me about my opinion before this war started, and when I said to him it is all about oil, and gas, and power to destroy Iraq in order Israel to not face treat from Saddam Husain. I don’t even understand why Canadian military go, and fight. Well if you are a dog your owner will take you every war that he involves.
Typically western warfare goes from violent to political to philosophical to sentimental. Like everybody has to have their share of it. They're all trying to reclaim their humanity in the aftermath amid the gungho, tears, fears and the guilt and so much poetry going around. it turns men into cookies. People just don't think anymore about what they are doing so the end product is always emotional. Americans, canadians ,europeans, australians when they finally grow a brain or develop a conscience are the sorriest sons o bitches ever.

I have spoken to several Norwegian soldiers who have taken part in the American occupation of Afghanistan and they came from another American war from the Serbian province of Kosovo. I asked them what the Norwegian army had to do in Afghanistan because they never threatened Norway and most Norwegians like you Canadians can hardly find Afghanistan on the world map. I received the answer that "when we liberate Afghanistan, our companies will get in touch to rebuild the country and make money". When we realized that the United States was leaving Afghanistan and that the American war adventure was over, they became very sad and angry, especially when the Norwegian government's flight on taxpayers' money brought Taliban terrorists to Norway for negotiations. Just want to say that the first Canadian victim in Afghanistan Sergeant Mark was hugely popular and loved by us Serbs. During his service in former Bosnia, he helped many Serbian refugees who were trying to rebuild their lives and living in terrible conditions. Sergeant Mark's wife was in the Serbian Republic (Serbian part of former Bosnia) and was rebuilding a Serbian church destroyed by the Bosnian Muslim army. RIP Mark and we will not forget you and your family.

This is exactly why Canada needs to exit NATO and join the BRICS and regain our sovereignty. NATO nations are mere vessels of the USA to use and exploit.

It was definitely worth it. It gave the western army’s so much real life 💪 training, real combat experience. It was very positive for the weapons industry, lots of spending.
