Cassie’s first reaction to the trilogy is the gold standard IMO, and getting to see her excitement when sharing the journey again with Carly is simply perfect. I can’t thank you ladies enough!!
Perhaps the best story in recent memory and Peter Jackson did a fantastic job bringing it to the big screen. I love it when you and your sister watch these together.
Eowyn and Merry were, to reduce it at its most basic form, cursed when they stroke the Witch King; in fact it was the sword of Merry the one which did more damage as it was (in the books) from an ancient kingdom that was destroyed in a war against the Witch King and had powerful spells against the Ringwraiths.
Sadly both swords, Merr's and Eowyin's got destroyed after hitting him.
Even though she technically watched them (but also she doesn't fully remember it) I hope you do the extended editions of the Hobbit trilogy. So now she can revisit from a different perspective of now seeing what LOTR is and of course to see familiar charecters again lol 😄. To make the stories hit even harder from combining both LOTR and the Hobbit. Hopefully you can complete the journey again. And of course for you to see it a second time as well seeing it from a 1st time reaction to seeing it with knowing what happens etc.
The story begins with the ring being cut from Sauron's finger, and it ends with Gollum biting the ring from Frodo's finger.

Yall need to look up some videos on the lore. It's super interesting and you'll learn all about Sauron and the other evil in middle earth.
It is a long journey. But when you get to the end you wish it could go on.
This is my 2nd time watching other people who have not seen LOTR and it amazes me that 20 years ago I had the same reactions ,even the same thoughts at the different junctures of the movie as you guys did. That is what true movie magic is and really speaks to the story that is Lord of the Rings , a masterpiece of fiction , storytelling at the highest level .

Not the movie gives me similar reactions but their reactions to those scnes they are watching.
It must be said that in both the book and the movie there is no guarantee that Frodo would have dropped the ring. People hate on Gollum and rightly so, but if it weren’t for Gollum biting Frodos finger off and falling into the crack, the ring may never have been destroyed. Gandalf said very early on that Gollum still had a part to play and boy did he ever!
You don't understand how magic works in lotr it isn't something u learn once and have like in Harry Potter, it's a long complex story but the short version is that it's gift borrowed from eru. Even when frodo used the light he didn't know elvish, he didn't understand what he was saying or why, he spoke with another's voice from whence he did not know the books tell us, and he was never able to summon the light of earendil again

33:23 Frodo is leaving with the others on the ship for "The Undying Lands." of Valinor. He is doing so 1.) Yes, because of the wound he suffered at Weathertop and they may have even better medicines and magics to help with its recovery. And, 2.) The entire experience plus the burden of the One Ring's influence has permanently changed Frodo. A part of him is forever "tainted." by its evil influence. He cannot experience the joys of life as fervently as he used to, the pain from the wound he suffered, and the Ring's Influence has left a scar upon Frodo's heart. A scar that has left him in a bout of depression, severe PTSD, and is overall a determent to his quality of life.
I mean Cassie, You've seen what it's done to Bilbo who carried it for 50-60 years… and Gollum who carried it close to 500 years. Even only a year and half of its influence, has left its mark on him.
One could say the Elves are gifting Frodo passage to the Undying Lands so that he may "have his life back."
You remember what Lady Galadriel said "Frodo now understands the truth of it all…. that the quest for the Ring… will claim his life." Though it was likely you and others of course, thought it meant physical death for him, It would be his spirit, his mental, and the essence of his being.
He would endure the rest of his life in a likely permanent depression… For him, is that really a life?
Anyway, that's one perspective.
@ 1:05 No, he can't 🙂 Gandalf/Olorin/Mithrandir is a spiritual being. Like an angel in the world of Lord of The Rings. He can assist the people and guide them in the right direction, but he cannot interfere with the mortal world too much. Such as shooting a lightning or destroying an entire army. Gandalf could turn into whatever he wants and probably destroy that whole army alone with a single swing of his staff. But he's sort of "not allowed" to do that. That would be too much interfering with the world. As you watch the Hobbits/LOTR you can see him kind of "manipulating" people in the right direction. That's how these "angels" work. But it would be too much if they would just start to use their full powers to shape things as they please. Kinda hard to explain but I hope you get what I mean.
I've been a Community Manager and a Gamemaster in several different role-playing games, and we kind of had the same rules. We CAN do whatever we please, but the powers should always be limited to what's actually necessary according to players and the world and situation itself. You are basically a god, but you minimize your powers by your own will to use them as less as you can, so the world can roll on it's own, as it is supposed to do.
The whole Journey of Sam and Frodo was inspired by Tolkien's service in WWI alongside his best friend whom he went to war with. Journeying across many battlefields, encountering many foes, in the darkness of it all…. it was those two against the world and he wanted their experience to be told in the bounds of this story.
Great reaction to a great trilogy and all the characters are well done, Aragon being my favorite as he never loses hope in others just himself and his fear of his bloodline.
You two should really watch 'The Hobbit'(1977) and 'The Return of the King'(1980). They are animated dramatic musicals.
