Pretty depressing huh? Jensen must feel triumphant about this one.
We are all mocking the price to performance of the 4070 (and rightly so) but at least that card has 4 extra GB of VRAM and the VRAM is much faster than the 3070. After owning a 3080 since it came out and using the card for 1440P gaming, I am not convinced you need 16GB of VRAM but 8 is clearly not quite enough for many games. 10 – 12 seems to be a pretty good balance.
If the VRAM is full, the system ram can be used too, right? So my system has 26 GB vram in total, 10 GB dedicated vram of my 3080 and 16 GB shared system memory. In these benchmarks, did you disable shared system memory, did you just not have much or does this shared memory actually make so little difference that e. g. A Plague Tale Requiem is still uplayable with an 3070 even if you have more than enough shared memory system memory? I mean, I know system ram would be heavily bottlenecked by the bandwith here and not nearly as fast as the GDDR6X vram but I still would have thought this wouldn't let problems be caused like the ones in Plage Tale Requiem.
With all respect, but The last of us part 1 example is bullshit. I mean, this is 10+ old years game on part 2 visuals. This shit should run okay on base ps4 as well as part 2 did. But here we are shitting on 3070 because they just cannot do a decent optimized port. And the same goes for Hogwarts. This game looks a least 5 years old on arrival and wasn't run good at all on all hardware. My point is let's not shit on hardware when the studios obviously cannot provide.
I have a really old graphics card , an R7 so I tell you I have learned to turn of thing's you really don't need turned on , like shadows, motion blur, reflections , particle effects, bloom . Unless your a graphic whore and for whatever reason you can't live without ultra settings then blow your money, but if you want to have a fun enjoyable gaming experience then play with the graphics settings.
i dont get why are we comparing 3070 vs 6080, woulndt be better to compare it to 6070? plus, even a 6070 is more expensive than a 3070 PLUS 6070 was released like half year later than 3070? wth is this xD

Uma prega a uso da IA e agora a outra veio com história de memória. O problema é que quem fica no fogo cruzado somos nós, que agora não podemos ter um computador decente por causa de entusiastas.
Uma placa de R$5000 não durar nem 3 anos é absurdo e pura forma fácil dessas empresas predadoras quererem ganhar dinheiro.
O problema agora é que tem softhouse entrando na jogada e abraçando a causa.
Que tem que aumentar a vram, isso é fato e um dia tem que acontecer.
Mas estamos na geração ps5. Será que precisamos mesmo que o Pc seja tão mais forte que ele, ou isso tudo que estamos assistindo é o mundo do PC virando modinha de gente louca que quer trocar de Pc com preço de carro a cada 2 anos?

Would I like 10-12 gb on my 3070? Yes. However at 1440p to ideally achieve a framerate of 80-100 I will be using DLSS quality and high settings (ultra textures mostly only make a difference at 4k) in basically every game anyway. Not too concerned with VRAM for lets say a 5-7 year lifespan of this GPU using these parameters. And if we look at raytracing, the 3070 with DLSS will still deliver a more playable experience than the 6800, best example for that is cyberpunk.
Still rocking my 1070 I bought in 2016. Absolutely love this card, it's been enough to run recent games, granted in medium quality, but they still run and I can play in good conditions. I'm not hurry to upgrade GPU and not a compulsive buyer, and thank god for that seeing the state the GPU market is in. Hardware Unboxed is one of the channels I'll be sure to follow the advices of to know which GPU I want to upgrade to.

Funny to see that the „bad“ RT performance from Rdna2 catches up even in heavy loads due to the memory 🤓 I see really bad for the 4060 TI and lower spec cards

Glad I sold the 3070 two months after purchasing it. I was very disappointed with it and bought a 6800XT – still in use and happy 😅
