In the lowlands of Burma lie the remains of thousands of crumbling temples…
In this episode, we tell one of the most colourful stories of civilizational survival: the story of the Bagan Empire of Myanmar. Find out how this kingdom rose up in the Irrawaddy river valley of central Myanmar, and built one of the most remarkable series of monuments to have survived from the medieval world. Discover what life was like for the people who lived there, and find out what happened to cause its sudden and complete collapse.

So excited! 🤗 Thanks Paul
As someone of the Burmese diaspora and a long time fan of your work, thank you for this episode. It's amazing to have a cohesive timeline and narrative of the disjointed yet familiar names and stories from the folktales of my childhood being presented in a beautiful two hours. Truly enjoyed it
Thanks so much for this podcast. Your attention to history and detail is appreciated.
Just wanted to say thank you for getting me back into history through this fantastic series!
Honestly would love to see you do a video one day on Marco Polo's life and travels. His is one of the most intriguing stories.
Your videos are the best to fall asleep to and not in a bad way. It takes the existential crisis thoughts out of my mind
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Been waiting forever!!!!
Looked at my phone as I went to sleep, saw that you uploaded and shouted, waking up my wife, whoopsies.
The usual excellence provided…. I only wish the videos were available on Spotify.. one question…is it pronounced Jenghis Chenghis or Genghis Khan??
Was just rewatching an episode yesterday, perfect timing.
I would absolutely pay money for these. They are second to none in my opinion.
Sound effects and ambient music is on point again! Does someone else help you with that? Or all yourself?
I imagine you may not read these, but I thought I'd say it anyway…
I love your stuff man, so very well done, and all with no ads thrown in, which says to me that it's about the product more than it is the money for you. The content is amazing, and I hope you are having as much fun making it as we all are listening to it. From one Cooper to another, thank you for what you do, I bid thee much love from the center of the United States
I'm a American, My Attention span & I.Q. are behind the rest of the world, So we will wait for the video…

Wonderful program
I love this podcast so much. The parts you do at the end on walking through the streets of a dying city always make my eyes water. It’s just such a beautiful, melancholy feeling, and you do it perfectly every single time.
You know its going really bad when an ogre is laughing at you for a solid month
I hope this episode is as thrilling to others, as it was for me on this morning's drive to work!
This is the best podcast on the internet for history lovers, hands down
Your series has educated me on history in a way I never even imagined possible and in another way you have helped me so much more. I have faced so many personal struggles in my recent history and it is listening to these podcast every single night that has put my mind and body at ease, I will never be able to express my gratitude towards you for your efforts. the words simply do not exist. all I can do is say thankyou and continue listen. I do not know you, but you are and forever will be a friend and a mentor within my mind. Thankyou.
I was lucky enough to be able to explore the Bagan site a few years ago. It's hard to describe how surreal and stirringly beautiful this place is.
Bagan , the beginning of our Burmese people, cullture, literature and religion. Thank you very much for doing this podcast. People rarely know about Bagan.
Mr Cooper, listening to this it made me wonder if you had considered your perspective on living during the fall of the British Empire. I ask, because, it has made me consider my short time (65 years) in witnessing the decline of the USA empire. Thanks as always for these thought provoking remembrances…
So I was watching 'All tomorrow: The future of humanity'. I land here, hear Alan Cooper's voice and I'm like, "What? Alt Shift X and FoC are the same folks?"
You should do an episode about Chaco Canyon’s Anasazi
I love how these chroniclers just go for it when talking about numbers. "The king had 30 billion of his most stout warriors march forth!" 🤣
😍 new video
I anticipate your program on the end of the western world. I'm sure it will be available in 2-4 yrs.
I don’t want to see Amazon commercials!
Not my favourite epsiode but not much you could have done to make it better. Appreciate your hard work!
