13:15 13:17

15:1-15
alif lām rā Those are the proofs of the Writ and of a clear recitation.

Perchance those who ignore warning will wish they were submitting;

Leave thou them to eat and enjoy themselves while hope diverts them; and they will come to know.

And We destroyed no city save it had a known writ;

No community outstrips its term, nor will they defer.

And they say: “O thou upon whom the remembrance has been sent down: thou art possessed.

“Why bringest thou not the angels to us, if thou be of the truthful?”

We send down the angels only with justice, and then are they not granted respite.

We sent down the remembrance, and We are its custodian.

And We sent before thee, among the sects of the former peoples,

And there came not to them any messenger but they mocked him;

Thus do We insert it in the hearts of the lawbreakers:

They believe not in it; and the practice of the former peoples has passed away.

And had We opened above them a gate of the sky and they continued ascending therein

They would say: “Our sight is but intoxicated; nay, we are a people taken by sorcery.”

17:13-19
**And every man: We have attached his fate to his neck; and We will bring forth for him on the Day of Resurrection a writ which he will find unrolled:**

“Read thou thy writ! Thy soul this day suffices as reckoner against thee.”

Whoso is guided, he is but guided for his soul; and whoso strays, he but strays against it; and no bearer bears the burden of another. And We do not punish until We have raised up a messenger.

And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its opulent ones, but they are perfidious therein; so the word becomes binding upon it, and We annihilate it utterly.

And how many generations have We destroyed after Noah? And thy Lord suffices as one aware, seeing the transgressions of His servants.

Whoso desires this fleeting life, We hasten for him therein what We will to whom We wish; then have We appointed for him Gehenna wherein he will burn, condemned and banished.

And whoso desires the Hereafter and strives for it as he should, and is a believer — those, their striving is appreciated.

13:17-25
**He sends down from the sky water, and the valleys flow according to their measure, then the flood carries a swelling froth; and from what they burn in the fire seeking ornaments or tools there is a froth like it. Thus does God present truth and vanity: as for the froth, it departs as dross; and as for what is of benefit to men, it remains in the earth. Thus does God strike similitudes.**

For those who respond to their Lord is the best; and those who respond not to Him: had they all that is in the earth altogether, and the like thereof with it, they would seek to ransom themselves thereby. Those have an evil reckoning, and their shelter is Gehenna; and evil is the resting-place.

Is then he who knows that what is sent down to thee from thy Lord is the truth like him who is blind? There take heed but those of insight:

Those who fulfil the covenant of God, and break not the agreement,

And who join what God commanded to be joined, and fear their Lord, and dread the evil of the reckoning,

And who are patient seeking the face of their Lord, and uphold the duty, and spend of what We have provided them, secretly and openly, and they avert evil with good: those have the good final abode:

Gardens of perpetual abode which they enter, and whoso was righteous among their fathers, and their wives, and their progeny. And the angels will enter upon them from every gate:

“Peace be upon you, because you were patient!” And excellent is the final abode.

But those who break the covenant of God after its agreement, and sever what God has commanded to be joined, and work corruption in the land: those have the curse, and they have the evil abode.
