I started crochet during the pandemic and have not stopped since then I have made about 100 toys and have no intention of stopping this amazing hobby
A positive change is how I look at gifts. I'm WAY more likely to choose to make something for someone than I am to immediately buy something. Because of that I've definitely expanded the range of things that I make too. I started with scarves and blankets but now I'm making sweaters and amigurumi and bags and jewelry because those things would suit people I'm making things for.
A negative change is that I read a lot less. You can watch TV and movies while crocheting but I have yet to figure out how to read while I'm working. Yes yes, audiobooks, I do that, but it's not the same.
All in all though, crochet has definitely been a positive change!
When someone sees me crocheting and they ask what are you knitting, I always respond with this… I’m a hooker not a knitter! 😂😂
I sew as well as crochet, they both help me mentally. You put it so well. I need to memorize how you put it.
The knitting/crochet comments? 😅I have the same reaction when people call thread or yarn, “string”.
You are so right when I’m studying my work is in my hands . I’ve finished more projects this year and became a Doula 😍
My grandmother taught me crochet and knitting. But like a lot, I put it aside, then with the pandamic started I went to crocheting again. But this time around, my son and I have a little business with his nerd art (gaming characters, cartoons, etc), and me with hats, scarves, lapghans, shawls, baby afghans, and simply amigurumi. I retired 4 yrs ago and did paper crafts, but I wanted something I could do with family while watching TV or a movie. So now hubby has built me a craft room, and I have my yarn out. So when I finish a project, I sit looking at my yarn until one of them pop up, and we are your next project, and we want to be whatever they tell me. I totally love how the yarn speaks to me.
I crochet with 20 + Friends at my Church. We make Baby Blankets to give to newborns, Lap Blankets for Seniors and others who need them at Convelesent Homes. Scarfs for Homeless at Winter-Time. And Hats and Caps to help Others in need..
Hi Elise, you hit the nail on the head. I agree with all of your comments. I started off making cards and boy do I have a TON of supplies. I have moved from CT to FL 5 yrs ago. lol I used “PODS” to load my belongings. Most of the 2 PODS were loaded with my crafts. I moved several times here in FL each time I got rid of more craft supplies. Now the last several mos I decided to resume my crocheting. I certainly didn’t think I added that much yarn to my stash. Yesterday I HAD to organize the yarn as my daughter’s dog loves to chew YARN 🤦🏻♀️. I took some pictures to show my friend and she laughed so hard. Lol and guess what I was looking at this am!!! The adds for the craft stores. Well that’s my story. I’m trying hard not to get frustrated so I take breaks when I feel the frustration seeping in. Thanks for letting me share. Love your great videos Elise❤.
I agree with you about crocheting at night. If i can’t spend time at night my day is not complete. What are you making in this video? It’s a crochet as you go? Love your channel. ❤
Thank u for the last 2 tips. All were great!!!
I can relate!! I have to share a story from about 30 years ago. (I've now been crocheting for 50 years) Anyhow, back 30 years, my hubby came home from work and saw me crocheting and asked what was I knitting!! I said that it was crocheting, not knitting!! Ah, what's the diff he says. So I explained about knitting needles and crochet hooks ~~ I use a hook, not needles says I. He took a few seconds and looked at me and said ~~ So you're a Hooker!! I'm married to a Hooker!! We LOL'd a long time about that one. 😂 He passed away 22 years ago at age 52 and this memory still makes me laugh..
I’m definitely one of those people who gets triggered by people who don’t know the difference between crocheting and knitting. I actually remember i was in my aunt’s car on the way to a family reunion stress crocheting (i don’t like big crowds) and she asked what are you stress knitting for?” I think my eye literally began twitching in anger like in the cartoons
Omg this video is amazing 😂 you've discribed my life completely 😂
30+ years battling Rheumatoid arthritis and my doctors have all said this is the best physical therapy to keep my hands moving.
Same same same defending the art of crochet in public!!
Lmao!!!! I crochet toys in my basement!! 😂😂😂😂
Crochet keeps me sane and keeps me from killing someone 😂😂 for real, tho! 😂😂😂
Im 2 years out of a traumatic abusive relationship, being moulded into a zombie after 6 years of having my loves and desires beaten out of me. Crochet was the first hobby I picked up newly single. I was depressed and introverted and didn't really know who I was anymore. For the first time, I found joy amongst devastation. It gave me a purpose again, I began to learn what I liked and disliked, took risks trying new things, learned that failure does not equal incompetence. It slowly began to build up my confidence, showed me the importance of self care, and developed into an income earner. It's more than a hobby to fill in time, it's been my therapy.
We live in a Universe filled with Miracles and Crocheting (Knitting) is part of that phenomenon where we can take yarn (string) and create something beautiful with it! Then, there is the Inner Miracle that transpires as the yarn makes its way through our fingers onto the hook or needles and gradually transforms into a work of art! Yes, you are so right. Crocheting or Knitting does change our life! This phenomenon continues to manifest itself as generations of crocheters and knitters have touched the lives of others through Charitable Giving of the works of art we create with our hooks and needles! Thank you for sharing not these "weird" but these "Miraculous" ways yarn can change the innermost recesses of our lives! How wonderful that we can wake up to this wonderful Miracle every day!!!
So happy you share your passion with the world! You are such an inspiration to me😘 Big hugs my friend!
I have been knitting and crocheting for over 40 years , but my love for amigurumi started about 10 years ago . Crocheting amigurumi is my happy place , it helped me to trough a lot of hard times in my live . I love this , it sounds so much like what I do . Always have to have something on the go , crocheting or knitting !! And yes I get that a lot to , what are you knitting when I am crocheting 😜 Thank you , see you next time 💖
Hi Elise. I'm Juana. I just LovU. You're such A Blessing to me & others. Well I started Crocheting when I was 4. I'm extremely over protective of Crochet. I don't like it when people ask me what I'm Knitting! I do what you do & say, "I'm Crocheting.. Blah, Blah, Blah. Crocheting is Sooooo Theraputic. It has brought me through some Rough Crap as a child & Teenager. Now that I'm almost 60, it has become the Calgon that takes me away!!! I toooo have & need more space for yarn. There's Nothing Weird About Loving to Crochet! I'm a work in Progress. God Bless, Love & Keep You. Juana
Wow that phrase "what are you knitting" makes me feel defensive too. Knitting always gets all the glory! I especially mad when my husband walks in a room and says Whatch knitting now? Good lord I have been crocheting for 9 years he still can't say crochet…So happy you mentioned this😊
You are so funny but all true. I’m so happy for you. God zBless you and your family I pray your son is doing fantastic. Crochet is great. You are great. I love all you do and say. Thank you. ❤
I am a crocheter and a knitter. Crochet always seemed too hard and complicated to me. Although I learned both at school I needed to relearn both crafts. In 2011 I learned knitting and in 2017 I learned to crochet. Both crafts changed me.
1) I am a happier and more content person.
2) I have never been bored again.
3) I made friends all over the world (online crafting community.)
4) My English skills improved (see above 😅).
5) I started a business too.
6) I feel self-empowered because I see my progress. Now I can make things I considered being too hard/complicated.
7) First thing I check when I travel somewhere: where is the local yarn shop 😂
8) I always have travel projects with me.
9) Every year I swap several yarn mini advent calendars with people from all over the world. A beloved tradition since 2017.
And I could go on and on and on and on. 😁
This says so much of how I feel about crochet. I laughed, and cried tears of joy. You are my soul sister, my story, although different, comes from a very similar place. I am so happy that I was scrolling and found your channel.
BTW, I purchased a lit crochet hook set from Amazon that was better, and even had 2 hook handles. Lol, I am totally going to try and make that yarn bag, which will probably cost me more!🤣🤣🤣🙌
Knitting is like that well known topper asian cousin.. to whom asian parents always compare their children with 🤣
We are same I started when my husband got sick. And still for 15 years. I haven’t got as far as you. I trying the make a rabbit but I don’t like it. And it’s harder because I and left handed. I have not exter yarn what I buy I use it. Because money is tight. But I keep trying
