Back in the 1990s Resident Evil established the foundation for survival horror – exploratory gameplay, strict inventory management, fixed camera positions, tank controls, and pre-rendered backgrounds are the most common tropes that have endured in the years succeeding.
Thing is, whether loved or hated many of these tropes were deliberate design decisions, necessary at the time to overcome technical limitations present in game development. It makes sense that some years later indie and small-time game developers are adopting these design elements as they’ll likely lead to cheaper production costs.
There’s also something uniquely encapsulating with old school survival horror too, one which no matter the budget game developers are looking to replicate. This feature showcases 12 released and upcoming survival horror games which are heavily indebted to Resident Evil’s original design aesthetic.

greetings. hope you are having a great day.
I don't know what to say i just click the video bc with no reason 😐
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is the single greatest survival horror game ever. Shame it was overlooked completely.
ah old school resident evil style games good times.
It's a shame most of these games are PC only. I could surely use some new fixed camera SH games.
7:38 was delisted from PlayStation and Xbox
This was a great list, so many games I haven't heard of, so many to add to the wishlist! No mention of Daymare, though?

Tormented Souls is really great. I highly recommend it to any fan of classic Resident Evil and Silent Hill. 😁
Very interesting, few I'd not heard of there – what about the other game on Steam called The Hotel and release in 2022? It's by IL PALA and it looks like Resident Evil too! Very weird…
definitely looking forward to some of these titles… some, I have, but haven't played "Them & Us," "Echoes of the Living" demo, and Alisa… others, I HAVE played and were AMAZING (Tormented Souls was pretty terrifying)… and others on this list I've never heard of and can't wait to try…. also… there's a game coming out soon called Stray Souls.. can't speak for the actual release, but the demo had a bit of a Silent Hill feel to it…. also… Alisa is FINALLY coming to consoles as the demo is already out on Xbox Series
