1189: The Bloody Siege Of Acre Explained | Battles Of Legend

In 1189, after Saladin’s forces defeated Christian knights at the Battle of Hattin and captured Jerusalem, the Third Crusade began. King Guy of Jerusalem initiated a siege on the vital port city of Acre, resulting in a unique double siege as Saladin’s forces simultaneously besieged the Crusaders. The prolonged conflict saw heavy losses and endured for nearly two years. European reinforcements, including Richard the Lionheart and Philip Augustus, eventually arrived, bringing crucial military strength. Acre fell to the Crusaders in July 1191, leading to continued conflict and the eventual withdrawal of some key leaders.

  1. Love the focus given to operations prior to the arrival of the 2 kings. Costumes are great, period appropriate. Amount of paint and decorations on the men makes it a colorful scene. Give enough for the actors to do, big and wide cg shots to show the large scale. Historians popping in to give details and doing so with proper outlook on the siege and time period. Something I can show my friends, seeing as they'll never take my reading suggestions, and be confident that the epicness of the events are had. Please say there is more of this series on here
