  1. I own a copy of Lover's Lane on DVD. However it was released under the title "I'm Still Waiting For You" and the cover details that it is "In the tradition of I Know What You Did Last Summer". Which is odd given the movie has more in common with Friday the 13th for the most part.

  2. In Greek mythology Aphrodite often gets very cruel with people who say they'll never fall in love/get married which causes her to send her son Eros out to make them fall in love and have a bunch of terrible stuff happen. If people just went back to Greek mythology for inspiration they could make a TON of Valentine's Day horror movies.

  3. Traditionally in Japan the girls give gifts to the boys on Valentine's Day, and the boys give gifts in return on White Day (14 March) where the gifts are usually white. I know this thanks to Cardcaptor Sakura, which is still my favourite manga/anime.

I haven't seen Picnic at Hanging Rock for decades, and I arrived partway through, so I didn't realise it was set on Valentine's Day. I do remember being dismayed the mystery isn't resolved.

  4. Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl is awesome.
I miss that era of insane Japanese action films.
I somehow didn't catch that the super dark girl's club was a commentary on the ganguro subculture and it's similarity to blackface until now.

  5. Not to day Valentines is a great movie and it honestly is a guilty pleasure but to me the movie was always a throw back to 80s horror more than scream ripoff but it has the scream glasses on it

  6. Picnic at hanging rock is such a beautiful and odd film, it just lingers in the mind for so long. I remember seeing it in the late 70s when I was a preteen and it's still one I can go back to. Another quality video, thanks for all your great work.

  7. I don't know if the version of "Valentine" I saw was unrated, but I remember the kid in the beginning got stripped to his underwear by the bullies and was running away when they caught him, no one tries to help and everyone is just laughing…there was a very strong implication of some kind of public assault scenario which no movie would ever show. Also, I believe Denise Richard's character has a man tied to a bed during some kind of kink scene with candle wax, and it's implied he's either nude or semi nude, and she's just toying with him because she walks out leaving him there with the door wide open at a public event. So there's a lot of inappropriate and predatory implications and behavior in this movie besides the murders themselves…things that would more likely result in significant jail time if it were a man victimizing a woman instead of man on man and vice versa. There may be more than one edit of this movie b/c it didn't do well at all, but when I saw it, it seemed like some of the victims were just deeply despicable people, and the killer was a product of actual trauma with criminality offscreen involved.

  8. I loved this countdown. Valentine was, in my opinion, a fun movie to watch. It wasn't really groundbreaking in the horror genre but it was never dull and it was enjoyable. While the filmmaker backpedals from saying they weren't killed for saying no to him, from the opening scene where we see that Jeremy appears to have a mental hatred for most of the girls. Yes, tact wasn't a quality that they wanted to show but, hey in Friday the 13th Mrs. Voorhees killed all those camp counselors who had nothing to do with Jason's death, therein lies the plot point. I was always disappointed that Marley Shelton didn't become a bigger star than she became. As a matter of fact, I had high marks for most of the cast and their acting. Great video and look forward to what comes next.

  10. I geeked out for a second when you mentioned The Banshee Chapter! Nobody I know has ever heard of it, and I think it’s highly underrated. Yes, please find a way to cover it on the channel; more people need to know about it. I found it genuinely scary and atmospheric.
I watched it home alone, as a triple feature with The Den (also underrated imho, although not quite as good) and Absentia (the film that clued me in that Mike Flanagan was someone to watch, and I think we all know how that went 😍) So, needless to say, I didn’t sleep that night lol
So excited that someone else knows about this flick!

  11. Hmm. Almost every character in Valentine 2001(Spoilers follow) were horrible people and a few I'm not sure why he killed. The maid? Why? The gold digger? Why? I mean I guess the gold digger missing hurt her some but hell just leaving him a live long enough would have done more damage yet I guess just not in time for the party. The creepy neighbor I guess wasn't revenge against him but revenge from the girl he "loved"? ? But yeah.

Also the kids that beat him up they were going to pick on him for making out with "the fat one" but that would have been more against her than him even though they called him "thin" but they only beat him up because she called him an attacker. As for her, I guess she got the worse because it was all pinned on her? But why didn't she speak up or make a single bit of noise? She had the means too or the blame wouldn't work. Hmm. Just curious.

By the way, how can a party in full swing have such empty portions in the house that obviously shows signs they were being partied up and not blocked off? Plenty of "this happens because it was in the script". (She knew his parents… Did she lie to the police officer about her boyfriend? Oh, noez, I'm just thinking of more questions.)

  12. Hey Josh…not sure if you’ll see this but I have a General Question:
do you research a film BEFORE or AFTER you watch them? Just wondering if the research would pre-skew your take or if you pointedly try to avoid that?

Just wondering…oh…& Enjoyable video (as per usual)…

  13. So funny thing to mention.
Back in 2001 I remember seeing Valentine on TV when it premiered after release and then I never saw it again for like a good long or so years I couldn't find the movie because I could never have seemed to try to think of what the name of the movie was and then eventually because the only thing that I only remembered this movie was the Cupid faced killer in the movie and that was it so of course I asked a friend of mine while I was still going into right around about 2015 I told him I was having trouble looking for a specific movie so he asked me what the movie was because he was a huge horror fan and he still is, so he asked and I told him I told him about the movie and how I told about the movie only had one core thing that made me forever remember the movie and that was a killer in all black wearing a Cupid overhead mask while stalking and killing women after sending them weird and creepy Valentine's Day gifts like cards hinting towards their death or that scene where the two girls get the chocolates which ends up revealing that there's maggots in the chocolates and once I gave him that description he somehow knew what movie I was mentioning just by that description and he basically told me "Oh yeah, that's from Valentine!" I asked him if he was sure that was the same movie I was referring to and he's like "Yes man I'm sure." So like then on eventually while I was still going to school in 2019 I searched for the movie I found it thankfully and then watched it again after so many years.

  15. Hanging Rock is a very creepy place. I was there on a school trip in 1986… we climbed it easily, but on the way back down, I swear the paths changed. A couple of times we rounded a bend on the path, only to find it was a complete drop off, and the path behind us was going a different way.
Also, double Oscar nominee Jackie Weaver has an early role in the film.

  16. lol I honestly love those low budget British slashers. Idk they’re cheaply made but are competently made(for a low budget movie) and acted.
    Fun fact
Sarah T Cohen stars in a movie called Clown Doll(a really strong performance from her too tbh) but later in the movie a character is listening to a audiobook read by Sarah T Cohen

  17. I love Vampire Girl Vs. Frankenstein Girl, it is so over the top in the gore, action, and wacky story elements. Picnic At Hanging Rock is one of my favorites, it does not come off much as a Valentines' movie however. Valentine 2001 has my attention due to the adult cast.
