  1. While most of these games look fine/great, most of their monster designs just don't do it for me. Monster designs are probably the most important aspects of this genre and can make or break the game and unfortunately there's not a lot of these designs I like. They don't look bad, they just look like generic RPG/fantasy monsters to me.
Maybe its because of my age and video game upbringing, I grew up with Pokemon and Digimon and Monster Rancher and Dragon Quest and etc, but those are iconic monster designs. Even modern pokemon designs as well. I like simple designs, where I can look at the monster and easily recognize what it is, what inspires its design, and what it does. These newer games and newer monsters just look too busy for my taste…
This isnt a shit talking comment or me saying "I dont like these games". I guess my age is just showing. Its hard to keep up and pretend to be excited for all these new games and franchises when they just don't fill that hole like other games do. I give the developers credit for trying, as well as filling in the empty spaces that big franchises like pokemon refuse to fill. Hopefully I dont sound unfair or unreasonable in my comments.

  2. I actually like the simpler combat system of Nexomon, maybe it's not be intentional, but it makes the battles challenging on a different way. What I didn't like is how lower rarity monsters can't tank hits, sure, they have a higher dodge rate, but not high enough to make them worth using when compared to the higher rarity ones.

I didn't play 2 yet, so I still have to see how they improved the game between titles.

  3. Another great turn based game not listed is Siralim Ultimate which is on PC and mobile. It has come up in other videos Ed has done and is a great dungeon crawling creature collector with over 1000 creatures.

  4. I have to ask something, before the video started I saw an ad that made me curious. Is the mobile game EverTale deemed a monster taming game or is it just a horror?

  5. Friend THANKS for your Videos, so interesting! What do you think about Monster Hunter Stories 1 and 2? PD. I Love Nexomon, the 2nd. is the Best, but i really Enjoy Monster Hunter Stories, it was Refreshing! 🙂

  6. For the fresh switch play through, it would be nice if you picked smazee. Although, it would be understandable and probably a good option to pick crystal since u haven’t played it on your other play throughs. Still crossing my fingers for smazee tho.

  7. I guess I have Monster Sanctuary and Tem Tem already and would maybe consider two more from the list, but I wait for someting like Casette beast and the current styles in the games didn't suit my taste entirely yet.

    1. Monster Sanctuary
It was great or got at least better, I still can't bring myself to do more than the story or the last annoying challange (Backer satues) That prevent me to recapture the 100 %.
I'm not interessted enough for that challange

    2. From what I heard, these games shouldn't start with the bare minimum.

    3. Started kinda hyped, dissapointed me later on with the direction it took.

    4. It could be interessting, sadly not the biggest Digimon fan since a few years.

    5. curious and I might get it one day, but it seems not enough somewhow, however I have less to complain about.
Maybe i should have never known about the weird way the legendary "power" system worked and about it being a handy game or former one.

    6. PC please

    7. It's one of my ugly titles.

    8 Have no roblox

    9. Loomian I think the design was not was I was looking for, even if it looks like it changed for the better gameplay wise.

    10. It could have been an unlucky day, but I got bored of the demo even if it looks good.

  8. Definitely can't recommend Monster Sanctuary and Abomi Nation enough both really surprised me in good ways. Coromon and Nexomon are must plays for anyone who enjoys the genre. Loomian Legacy is enjoyable. And I look forward to playing through Temtem myself (I've played a little on a friend's account). Mython Island didn't do anything for me unfortunately and I lost interest very quickly.

  9. Nice list Ed. Already have Nexomons 1 & 2, on the 2nd titan of Coromon and The Digimon Cyber Sleuth pack. Pre-ordered the new S/V coming out. Idk, I just have more role playing games than other games. What can I say.

  10. Loomian legacy is really fun. The game took almost 2 years to make a new battle theatre, but the devs say that they will make updates much quicker. We just have to forget about the long update wait and realize that we can't change the past, but we can shape our future to be better.

  11. Huh, I didn't even know YouTube comments had a character limit. So rather than a mega-rant I'll just advise that those interested in Loomian Legacy, or whose kids are interested in it, to take a closer look at the Roblox environment as a whole before deciding.

Beyond that bit of unpleasantness. Monster Sanctuary is indeed excellent. If you're looking at it and thinking that a metroidvania and a turn based monster taming game shouldn't work well together, it does. It makes no sense that it does, but it does, somehow. Once you wrap your head around the combo system and status effects actually being strong for once in a monster taming game the mechanical depth opens up into a giant world of possibilities.

Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth is actually part of a series of Digimon Story/World games, although it's a series more due to having a similar playstyle rather than a connected story. It's the only one not on the DS and only half of the series ever left Japan. The missions based structure makes the story a bit clunky and slow in places, but is good once you move past that. They're mechanically very robust games that give you access to a huge number of options and let you do whatever with them. You don't really need to play optimally or in a certain way until postgame, and by then you'll have all the tools you need to do so.

  12. Love these videos! I plan on getting to: PIXELS Digital Creatures, TemTem, Digimon Cyber Sleuth, Nexomon Extinction, Loomian Legacy, and Coromon. I've already streamed Mython Island, and thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks for another awesome video!

  13. Well, an idea I have for a list is one with a good story. Monster-taming games tend to lean more into the gameplay, and one thing I enjoy about RPGs is the story. One thing I do love is where there are games that show ludo-narrative resonance.

  14. Play most of them already. I adore both monster sanctuary and coromon overall graphic style and both story. Digimon cyber sleuth also good played it on vita back in the day.
