  1. I was hoping for more traditional elements in TOTK before it’s release… now I’m hoping for it in the next title.
In my opinion, a mix of BOTW/TOTK and traditional titles would make the perfect Zelda game. (No more gimmicky abilities, no more memory recalls and no more durable weapons.)

  2. To extend the idea of the missing new settlements, my continual thought while playing is where are the stonemasons in this world. Other than presumably foundations of Hudson Co buildings and the markers to the fallen soldiers, I wonder why there is little to no visible rebuilding with stone to the castle (before it's upheaval) or elsewhere in Hyrule.

  3. How can you miss the Triforce?…its on the master sword, it's on the master swords case holder. Zelda has it on her garments. Literally the opening of the game you can see it on link and zeldas garments.

  4. Actually the island with the boats is involved in a quest. When you restore Lurelin, the local shop owner tells you that their washed-off boats always end up there and asks you to retrieve his so he can reopen.

  5. The biggest miss I think was not having hyrule castle as being a puzzle based final dungeon, then after beating it go to the depths and fight ganondorf. like how in link to the past had the tower as the finishing dungeon then fighting ganon in the pyramid aferwards

  6. I feel like I'm the only who's noticed this, but… the one thing I've noticed missing in both Tears and BoTW…?

Rolling. Seriously, why can't Link roll in either one of these games??? This is the most agile/athletic he's ever been. Yet, he still can't roll. Crazy to think that people who've only played these two games probably don't know of the fact that Link can roll. XD

  7. I loved Tears. I'm like 215 hours in, and I had a great time. But, as you said, 95% of what was added was gameplay mechanics, and that's cool, but when we've already explored Hyrule's surface with its peoples and towns, adding more empty layers isn't nearly as satisfying.

I also appreciate that the dungeons were better themed in TotK, but they still lacked heart and environmental storytelling. What did we learn about the ancient Rito, Zora, Gorons, or Gerudo from their temples? At least we learned the Zonai built constructs in a factory, though none of the construction pipeline made any sense to me. The sky and depths Zonai stuff did not make any sense as a cohesive system. It was just random mines and processing facilities, with an occasional rail here or there. Hardly a workable system.

But, you take each of the sages to their ancient facilities and basically listen nothing. Ancient Gorons lived in the depths! And basically no one cares. At least there's one tiny tiny side quest where a Zora goes to the sky islands to fish. But again, we don't get any cut scenes from the past or read any stone carvings or anything.

Unfortunately, it mostly seems like they spent all their development time on physics again, and I think that's what it's historic Zelda fans are saddest about.

  8. Ironically, I really liked Totk. After playing, I was disappointed with the lack of Zonai lore. We barely even got to understand them. The lack of temples, enemy variety and…no dlc. 😅

  9. First, the shield surfing challenge is EXACTLY the same than in BOTW. Come on, they could have done something different.
Secondly, yes, we did have that ONE running competition against an NPC in BOTW, remember? It was short, but was actually a lot of fun, specifically because we had to beat a guy at running! They could have brought back the concept, but with Ultrahand : different races around the world in different types of vehicles. Why not agains that same BOTW running NPC !

  10. The island boats are part of a quest: after you restore Lauralin village, an NPC asks you to retrieve one of them. I think he starts at Lookout Landing and you first need to tell him that the village has been restored.

After you get it, he opens a shop with free items.

  11. I wanna be sarcastic about it and say stuff like dungeons and puzzles, but it's obvious that this is just how Zelda is going to be now. More about freedom and player expression than about overcoming obstacles or puzzle solving.
