  2. Okay first of all it's questionable whether 2024 had 10 good movies at all. There certainly weren't 10 good horror movies. As immediately evidenced by the fact that the first movie on your list has like failed ending.

Jeff goldblum's The fly was a good horror movie. It follows was a good horror movie. The substance combined top line cinematography in a low-grade B curiosity. But no one is going to accuse it of being a good film.
The original Carrie was a good horror movie. And in some ways Seven was a good horror movie.

There weren't 10 good movies made this year. Maybe you could find enough entries to say top 10 horrors of the 21st century. Maybe.

  3. Everyone I saw The First Omen with thought it was awful. For one thing, it was so slow! And it just didn’t work. Very surprised you liked it. Ditto Longlegs. We all hated it. Very slow and didn’t scare any of us.

  4. Oddity —- def top 5 fav !!! So awesome, and in its own lane. I love the creepiness- and a few pieces of sarcasm comedy blended in— but not in a cheesy way. Loved it —- and the other movie from this director , called “Caveat”— that had the same atmosphere and creepiness —- I hope this director gets all the praises and recognition he deserves and we get more original horror from him sooner than later !

  5. Thanks for doing an all horror episode, my favorite genre. I have not seen all the films on your list, but of the ones I have seen Oddity is the best one. It is extremely creepy and there are some disturbing scenes. It goes to place that are unexpected. Top notch film. The director made another film, which was his first I believe, called Caveat, which is pretty freaky. There is a connection between the two films, not in terms of the story, but there is a creepy rabbit doll in both films. The first film can be found on Shutter. Sorry for using creepy so much, but I was creeped out.

  6. Strange Darling is good but I could not feel it was such a missed opportunity. It would be so much better if the story was what it was but they would put more focus on the emotions between the two and if they took the "game" they played with the safe word to the extremes, they would test each other limits till it would spin out of control and somebody would get killed.

  7. could you make a list like this with the best horror movies with practical effects that you can stream right now for halloween.. i miss the old days when cool practical effects where in horror movies and not crappy cgi

  8. I haven't seen Longlegs The Substance or Strange Darling yet, but Abigail was so good. The ending could use a few cuts and is a bit anticlimactic (honestly the film takes a dip after Kathryn Newton leaves), but the high points way outweigh the lows and the central premise was really, really good.

  9. Strange Darling was probably the best horror movie I've seen this year… come to think of it, it might be tied with The Substance. Both of them worked on so many different levels, and constantly kept throwing curveballs, with some actual teeth to boot.

And honorable mention also goes to Blink Twice which, while a tad predictable, was also very well made, well written, well shot, superbly acted, and genuinely creepy to boot.

And all three of those movies had something real to say, while never falling into the trap of sounding preachy. A very difficult line to walk.

  10. "Maxxxine" is by far the WEAKEST entry in the "X" trilogy. If I was gonna rank em' I'd say #3 "Maxxxine", #2" X" and #1 "Pearl."

So far my top 3 of the year are #3 ALIEN: Romulous, #2: Abigail and #1: The Substance. Demi Moore was superb.
