10 Microtransactions MORE Expensive Than The Game Itself

Some games have expansions, microtransactions, and DLC content that add up to more than the cost of the base game itself. Here are some examples.

  1. I kind of get it with MSFS because there's not a whole lot of people that are into it but the ones that are in a big way it's more like a hobby. I image the planes take a lot of work so they need the high price point to make it worth while as most casuals won't bother. I'm a casual and won't bother buuut others would.

  2. My all time favourite game costs 5 euros on steam. It used to be a full priced game that cost 60 euros but since it is from 2001… the price has gone down a little. But honestly 5 euros for a full game from 2001 is amazing. I have more than 1000 hours on it lol

    That game is civilization III

  3. Mobile games are arguably the worst at this. A free to play mobile game and literally every single one of them has some type of “pack” you can buy for $99.99. Who tf would spend that?

  4. I don't know if DCS World DLC would make this list, but for free game, you have to spend near $60-80 per plane you want to fly, plus the HOTAS you need to play with, and do it right with a VR headset, and to stand a chance in PvP you are going to have to spend a lot for a free game… thanks.

  5. I don’t think it’s fair to criticize a game because it has a bunch of DLC

    The real question is:
Is the DLC worth the money?

If a game is popular and people want to play it for 15 years what’s wrong with devs releasing a $20 expansion pack with more game content a few times a year?

The real rip off stuff is microtransactions they are like $40 for an apple on a desk or $1 for a red dot.

  6. AC: Odyssey has a lot of microtransactions but none of them are necessary to enjoy all the game content.

The expansions are worth it too!

$20 for 6-12 hours of additional content is worth it to me.

  7. Actually you DO still need currency of some sort (Federation Credits) in the Star Trek universe. For example, in a DS9 episode Jake Sisko is wanting to get his dad (Benjamin) a 1951 Bowman Willie Mays rookie card…obviously things like that or any other kind of antique/vintage kinds of things cannot be replicated.

  8. Can we stop calling them MICROtransactions. They haven't been micro for several years. $20 for a cosmetic skin is stupid. The in game currencies are the absolute worst. Im so tired of hey spend a million dollars to "unlock" all the bonus stuff.

  9. I remember the day I realised DLC is the worst I was playing Skyrim and found hinges and bolts and spent hours knowing this item was ment for something years slept past and I forgot about it then they released the DLC and one of them was a cheap and simple build a home and grabbed it when it was cheap, To finally realise that they are just a building item in this DLC? , So Bethesda decided Skyrim was big enough all ready so they just locked it and hid it away until years later with other quests and side stories , So we all just paid extra for things that originally was already in the game.

  10. I played star wars battlefront 2, the original, for playstation 2. What an amazing game, video clips of movies, good story, gameplay amazing. New games now, the new battlefront 2, I was so disgusted with the micro transactions I just beat the game quick and sold it off. Feels dirty, like they are pushing gambling habits onto kids or rewarding the rich and making the poor suffer. Just pathetic.

  11. CoD Points in MWII are ridiculously overpriced. I could see if Activision charged $9.99 for 2,400 CoD points (maybe still too much?), but charging over $150 for 21000 CoD points? That's fucking ridiculous. If you have that kind of money, go you, but not everyone does. It could just be me complaining about nothing, but I don't feel like it is just me, I feel like it's the fact many toxic people who play video games will agree with anything greedy video game devs do because they know they'll get treated like royalty for supporting the greedy devs.

Just look at how MWII's offline and local multiplayer is limited, yet players who prefer local and offline multiplayer (and players who want local and offline to get better by going against bots) are told to go fuck themselves by the toxic side of the CoD community. Nearly every single Call of Duty game for console supported local and offline multiplayer, even the games that didn't have bots at the time. Shit, even MW2019 had a great offline multiplayer which wasn't limited and had every single gun available to players who played it. You could even use blueprints provided you were connected to the servers. In MWII, that's just not the case, and Activision still haven't done anything about it and neither has Infinity Ward.

  12. FIFA is extremely insane. The fun part of this vid is that the method Falcon names is ilegal in the game. If you’d wanted to get the coins to get that Ronaldo icon legally from inside the game it would have costed you at least 30 times that buying packs and selling them on the market for profit and then getting the player from the market

  13. MICROTRANSACTIONS ARE KILLING GAMING! I will NOT succumb and spend my IRL money on in game battle passes, character skins, etc. on microtransactions when the reward of grinding with the in game currency unlocking these same items is far more satisfying
