Here are 10 examples of executions which did not work out exactly as the executioners planned. Though in the end, the hoped for result was achieved.

"we decline your confession because we want to execute you"
it's like a surreal version of football rules
Nitrogen chamber. The subject gets high, goes to sleep, and expires. No chance of pain or suffering, no need for needles.
Hang on a tick…13:30 Guilty plea rejected so the prosecution could call for death penalty?
I get that "life without parole" would have cost the local taxpayers a lot more but wouldn't the plea attempt itself cause a prejudicial bias?
I vote beheading/guillotine or firing squad if I had to choose
I cannot condone execution because there are too many men who have been found innocent after their conviction. However, if, for whatever reason, a living being has to be executed then do it properly. OR, have the people who convict the person be the person/people who carry out the execution. If you cant execute – dont convict
bit of brain blaze sneaking into that intro
Anyone being executed for crimes against others get what they get. I. Sure their victims didn't get to choose.
Capitol punishment is a highly controversial and sensitive subject…That being said statistically speaking the death penalty does not stop crime nor is it a deterrent like one of the original theories about it was. There is also a major difference between justice and revenge and should not be conflated.
Ironic that a country so in love with guns doesn't just shoot people sentenced to death. A shotgun to the bonce would be very difficult to botch.
The only "Horribly Botched Executions" are the ones where the object of the exercise didn't end up dead in the end. If they're being executed for murder they should be dispatched in the same manner as their victim.
The DEA seized 20,000 lbs of fentanyl last year, one pound could kill upwards of 200,000 people. Nitrogen gas can cause unconsciousness in under 30 seconds. Was on a job where two boilermakers perished. 100,000 ? Americans died of drug overdoses last year. How many Russian young men and boys have people cheered being crushed, blasted and burnt to death in the last year. Please don't tell me we aren't smart enough to kill people we want to?
Capital punishment is wrong for taking a human life and leaving no way for society to atone for a wrong! Lot of proven innocent people have been released from death row and prison because they were proven innocent, not not guilty, innocent after the fact! Justice is slow , ignorant, stupid, corrupt, bought and paid for, blind, tilted, based on a rubber rule book, cronyism at it's worst but it's all we got. Don't do anything there is no hope of correcting.
12:47 – "They removed her back to the execution chamber and a second firing squad completed the execution." This was 2002 and they had no one standing by with a stethoscope, or a least have the mercy guy who shoots them in the head at the end.
The electric chair is a weird one, it not only is plainly obvious to be a far more painful and prolonged method, making it unsuitable if the objective really is as humane a death as possible, but the only reason it exists is because of Edison's vicious smear campaign against Tesla & Westinghouse, given the success of AC over his DC when he realised how much better it was as a product. Why anyone would use a device that is literally the result of a propaganda campaign from the 19th century designed to make it look bad – the whole point, one would think, was to make the death as horrifying and excruciating as possible, or at least that's what the whole idea of a smear campaign would be… surely it can be agreed with comparative ease that the electric chair is a relic from a bygone era that we could do without.
Yeah, I just don't feel bad if a murderer suffers during an execution. The suffering many of these people inflicted upon their victims pales in comparison.
Will/Have any of these turn up on Casual Criminalist?
How is Margaret Pole not on here? She was hacked to pieces
11:50
The whole Edison and the Elephant thing is all bunk. One of his film crews just happened to be at Coney Island when a carny was planning on killing an elephant for publicity.
Champ Ferguson was the OTHER Confederate (guerilla) Hanged for war crimes at the end of the American Civil War
Medical professionals aren’t allowed to help in putting people to death
This was my favourite first 2 seconds of a Simon video.
You should do an into the shadows vid with lists of the most botched executions by execution method
Simon, you do a wonderful job as a presenter on all the channels you're associated with. One slip I'm certain may have been made was in the final story from todays program. I'm positive you said 1963 NOT 1983 – please correct me if I'm wrong, OK? That would put him on "Death Row" for an extra 40 years!! Keep up the great work!
I was electrocuted a couple years ago and suffered nerve and muscle damage from it. I cannot image using electricity as a form of execution. Absolutely inhumane.
It’s King James the 6th and 1st, not 6th and 2nd
Considering the horrible treatment the union prisoners suffered at Andersonville I absolutely agree that the confederate commandant deserved the death penalty
Many years ago in great Britain a man who was hung woke up on the table before he was to be autopsied the Dr's response was to take a club and kill him.
Don't they use a simple piston air gun to kill cattle? Reusable and inexpensive. About a tenth of a penny a shot. Sounds fairly perfect to me. One shot to them base of the skull at the junction where the medulla meets the skull. It is the human off switch. Fast, efficient, clean and 100% one shot kill rate.
Think we need to bring back public executions in the US help get this crime rate under control
Perfect pronunciation of Fotheringhay Sir.
Boo hoo.
3 of the executions of the convicted at Nuremburg had their executions botched. Joachim von Ribbentrop, Hitler's Foreign Minister, was supposed to be hanged by means of the "Standard Drop Method" (the aim is top break the neck of the accused, killing them instantly, to prevent a prolonged strangulation), but due to the procedure going wrong, it took nearly 30 minutes of strangulation before he finally died
I never understood why people depict botched hangings as something gruesome. Fact is even if the noose doesn't snap your neck, it should be tight enough to put you unconscious within 12 seconds at max. Twitching and flopping about might've been terrifying to them, but in reality they didn't feel any of it, it was simply their unconscious trying to break free
I don't get why we feel the need to give rapists & murderers a "humane" death. Their victims suffered horrendous deaths & multiple rapes. We need to take off the kid gloves & get medieval of these monsters.
Number 4 has me confused is it a guy or a girl he says she/her but displaying a picture of a male?
It's a joke that we still don't have a set, efficient method of killing each other like this. Humans have perfected killing over thousands of years but suddenly we can't do it? Hydrogen gas direvt to lungs, pass out it 3, dead in 6. How hard is thay
The death penalty is never, even acceptable.
Medical professionals are not involved in lethal injection. That's why it goes wrong so much.
I have zero sympathy for criminals who go through botched executions
What about high velocity lead brain " poisoning " ? Honest question
The notorious outlaw Black Jack Ketchum 's hanging went horribly wrong. The rope was too long and pulled his head straight off of his neck. It was a particularly bloody death.
I have an idea. Anyone who proposes a method of execution is humane has to prove it by testing it out on themselves first.
Wicked
Does it matter? They got their sentence who cares how they die? Their vicitms didn’t get that chance
