I have tried Coromon, Nexomon, Monster Crown, and even Temtem to find something Pokemon like. Those 4 games do a decent enough job of picking the mechanics from Pokemon, but it feels like they don't have their own identity, and pales in comparison to Pokemon. Others like MHS1/2, Monster Sanctuary, Ooblets etc have their own distinct identity and feel better to play. The 4 I mentioned first just feel like rip-offs without a soul.

You forgot Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker. It's a somewhat old game for the Nintendo DS, but it's really great. The 3vX battle format makes it a fun strategy challenge.

If I were to throw my own hat into the ring, I’d recommend Kindred Fates(when it launches). The game is a Pokémon-like that got massive amounts of funding and should be coming out next year or in 2024. Can’t wait to see what the finished product is.

Monster Sanctuary is by far one the best games I've played in years!!! Buy it!!!
I’m a fan of Pokemon but I enjoyed playing MHS2 more than I enjoyed latest Pokemon games…
