  1. Hi Tristan. Shogun, Wolf Hall (the entire trilogy, actually) and All the Light We Cannot See are on my TBR. Thank you for reminding me to get on with them. I highly recommend The Kite Runner. It moved me to tears. A must-read. And the movie is good too. Hosseini’s other book A Thousand Splendid Suns is even better.

  2. I'd recommend either "Kite Runner" or "All the Light We Cannot See".

The Kite Runner – qualifies as a modern classic in my opinion.
i read it years ago when i was in high school.
the story itself is not easy but it is well written and important.
back then I remember thinking i've never read anything like this before.

All the Light We Cannot See – as a jewish woman who has been exposed to many stories and testimonies about the holocaust I have to admit that at some point all the fictional stories starts to sound the same and as I have access to testimonies I usually prefer them, however it was still very well written and to someone whe's not jewish might be even more intriguing.

Anyway, whatever book you choose i hope you'll enjoy it.

  3. I remember watching Shogun when I was a child but have never read the book. I was a little bored but I was only 11 or 12 years old. My parents seemed to like it. I vote you read Shogun.

  4. I read only 2 of these books, Shogun and All the Light You Cannot See, I liked Shogun more, but it is written to be exoctic on purpose, probably a more realistic take from that period would be Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa

  5. I vote for All the Light We Cannot See, because I'm dying to hear your thoughts on how it's written, whether or not you think it's destined to be a classic, and if you think it worthy of the Pulitzer. I read it recently, & the opinions are all over the place & fascinating! Couldn't more highly recommend Wolf Hall. It's one of the few modern books that felt like a classic to me. It's just a masterpiece. The Kite Runner has staying power like few books I've read, and still haunts me! (I love these videos. My TBR keeps getting longer! πŸ™‚ Thank you!

  8. I love this new channel Tristan- and your introduction makes me want to read all of these books! I absolutely loved Wolf Hall but my vote is going for All the Light as I too have this in my TBR pile.
I'm still trying to finish the second book from your classic patron group but I cheated a little and watched your recent review, even though I'm only half way through, and it has spurred me on to try to finish it this week. If only I could drop the day job!!!!! Super video as always and much appreciated.
