  1. I absolutely love The Hallow. I first came across this hugely underrated horror flick during the height of the Game of Thrones phenomenon when alot of the actors who starred in GofTs began appearing in several other projects outside of Westeros as was the case with The Hallow which starred Joseph Mawle (Benjen Stark) & Michael McElhatton (Roose Bolton; also portrays Tam Al-Thor in Amazon's The Wheel of Time adaptation). A hugely underrated underappreciated supernatural horror film that deserves more recognition.

  2. So glad someone is shining a light on Irish horror. I've found quite a few gems in my viewings in the past few years. There needs to be an active community of folks in the fandom to champion these films. I enjoy the mystique the chill vibes and the distinct atmosphere of these films that make them distinctly Irish, if this makes sense. Tubi and Shudder are good places to find many of these films for streaming. Hoping there's a part 2! For those clueless naysayers, just because a film doesn't have a hollyweird or even an independent budget on the high end doesn't mean it isn't good. I think some of you guys know this, right?

  3. The Hallow is great. If you want to see a couple of idiots ignore everyone's warnings and do every stupid thing you can imagine finally getting their comeuppance, this is the movie for you. The scene of Dad exploring the forest with his kid strapped to his back is unintentionally hilarious. Make it a drinking game and take a hit every time someone does something dumb. I can't recommend this movie enough.

  4. 😄Adding these to my list, as @DocHayes420 said, "As someone who loves both horror & all things Irish, …" and going to add "Grabbers 2012" a monster horror comedy film, there are some truly frightening scenes in the movie but for actual Irish horror, I'm going back to this excellent video.💝

  5. Irish horror is great, they have so much to draw on, be it mythology or the troubles (71 and Black 47 could be seen as horror). Many of the films are co-productions with Scandinavian or Flemish companies. On a more serious note the Magdalene (pronounced maudlin) laundries only closed in 1996. At the end the women were packaging Hasbro games such as Mouse Trap and Kerplunk. Whilst the Catholic Church is vilified for this in England my mother worked in what was known as as a Psycho Geriatric Hospital under the NHS. This was an ex-Workhouse and many of the patients had been there since they were born to unmarried mothers.
Anyway , great list (Grabbers is amazing) but where was Stitches and Raw Head Rex.

  6. "With few jumpscares to speak of…" — That's fine. You do NOT need jumpscares in a horror movie to have an excellent horror movie. Too many times writers and directors think that those of us who love horror only like it due to the jumpscares. However, there is such a thing as too many and…then there's the way too obvious "waiting for a jumpscare" when the director lingers on something a little too long. They're no longer as effective as they should be. Too many and your movie is predictable. None and some "horror" fans (ie not true horror fans) will wonder where the scares are. I'm actually curious how writers are going to start using AI to "help" write their stories when we all know that AI is just reguritating the stories that its been absorbing. If we think movies are feeling like they're not "fresh" now, imagine how that feeling is going to multiply as more and more writers use AI or as directors & producers opt to have ONLY AI write a script.

  7. Just started this vid, don't know if Grabbers! Is going to be on this list or if it is even considered and Irish horror film. It IS filmed in Ireland and is honestly probably more of a comedy than a horror but, it is a horror comedy and it is pure gold. If you haven't seen it, I wholeheartedly endorse the movie.

  8. Irish film makers haven't been as prolific?
Hole in the ground, all you need is death, oddity, caveat, you're not my mom, the hallow, boys from county hell, the devil's doorway, and that's just off the top of my head
