I will maek him an offer he can't refuse ,,, yes that is one of those famous quotes
The Cuban scenes took place at a time when Fidel Castro (and others) were rebelling against the government, led by Fulgencia Batista, who was, to put it kindly, a corrupt president, and also a cruel, savage "leader". The rebels were successful and Castro and his Communist government took over and ruled until his death, when his brother took over. That's it in broad strokes.
one of my all time favorite moments ever is when his wife praises the pear he brings home for dinner.
I LOVED the Big Lebowski joke!
Before I even watch this I want it known that I think Cassi and Carly should totally direct and write a whole gigantic series of movies, and they should also be in all of them with all their favorite stars. Who's with me? [There could be a scene where Tom Cruise or Leonardo DiCaprio get waylaid by Cassi and Carly, and they demand to know how they could hold their breath that long, which increases the peril….]
I love this channel so much. Just the best people, both Cassi and Carly and the community of people around them. It's just the best. Love to everyone from Kentucky.
Frank Pentangeli is the Corleone capo now in charge in the Bronx. What is so complicated to understand about this?
Hyman Roth is, of course, based on Meyer Lansky. Moe Green is Bugsy Siegel.
Why did you cut out the crucial scene where Fredo reveals that he knows Johnny Ola? It's so important to the movie, and we don't see your reaction? 🙁
"This means the rebels won? Holy effing s***. Do you not know who Batista was and that Fidel Castro overthrew him? How could you not know of the Cuban Revolution? WTF?
"This guy is a bully!"
Wait, a Mafia boss is a bully? What a shock!
"I'll make him an offer he can't refuse." "Is that from THIS?" OMFG, it's from the first movie. It's the most famous line in the three movies. It's one of the most famous movie lines ever uttered.
The scenes in Little Italy are shot in Little Italy, of course. You know, New York City?
Wop = without papers, a term used for italians once. Disrespectful.
This weeks content with this and TD 5/5
It's fun seeing alpachino in Cuba and Miami and not playing scarface haha
"wop" is a racist term for Italian people. As is "guinea" and "dago."
Cassie, are you aware that Talia Shire who plays Connie in the Godfather films and Adrian in the Rocky films is the sister of Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola.
Dear Cassie you're surprised to see so much violence. here in italy Cosa Nostra did the worst since 20's and it wasn't a movie. Mafia here is the worst virus created by men. "But it is an human fact and as human it will have an end…" Giovanni Falcone quote
You should watch Alita: Battle Angel
Do one on Indian movies like RRR My name is Khan 3 Idiots also😀
Godfather I & II are two of the best movies ever made. Very rare that a sequel is as good as the original.
Cassie, Frank Pentangeli was not in Godfather I. Clemenza was scheduled to return for Godfather II, but due to a dispute, his character was killed off, and replaced by Pentangeli. His character was created for the sequel.
Wop is a derogatory word for an Italian.
Wop is a racial slur for us Italians
It must be very confusing to watch a movie like this without knowing anything about the history of that time, especially the Cuban Revolution. At least you've got Wikipedia.
Thank you for everything and I appreciate the Big Lebowski reference regarding the rug, too. 😉
11:48 I don't remember any Klingons in Godfather 2🤔
Dear Cassie, I love love love that you are down this rabbit hole.
I love how much you do not know about this story.
Dear Cassie, keep on keeping on. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE your offerings. Thank You.
Keep on keeping on
Godfather I and II were nominated for 24 Academy Awards. Unbelievable. Both won for best picture among others.
What a monster Kay was. Kills Michael and her baby without even talking to Michael about it. No wonder Anthony wouldn't give her a kiss goodbye. He probably figured out if she killed one child because "this all must end" maybe Anthony "must all end" too. She is a horrible person.
I thought the story line with DeNiro was the more interesting.
For me this one isn't as good as the first one, and I actually find it a little overrated. It's too long and too confusing and there are two or three points where I always get lost. It's still very good, just not great.
3:08 That was very random. And it threw me back to my childhood, somehow. Anyway, I still prefer the first movie, by a slim margin. Both are absotute marterpieces! Makes me wonder if Coppola still has the chops to dazzle us with his new (?) film, Megalopolis. I'm definitely curious.
Godfather part 1 and 2 are the 2 best movies of all time IMO… also just a little fyi if you ever want to learn some backstory on real mobsters but moE Greene is based off of bugsy seigal and hyman Roth off of Meyer Lanksy.
React to scarface (1983) next 🤘🏻
Fun Fact, Cassie: Lee Strasberg (Hyman Roth) was Al Pacino’s mentor in drama school.
The focus on the cake is because it has an image of Cuba on it. All the industrialists and crime lords from the USA are carving themselves a piece of it.
10:46 A very offensive term for an Italian, same as "guinea", which you also asked in the reaction to the first movie.
🤪😜 What’s a WOP ?? 😂😂
When Vito gave Fanucci the $100, he was testing to see if he actually had balls and to prove his theory that all of his power was a sham….it was all pretend power ….he then knew that he could kill him and get away with it without repercussion
I like this movie, but it is much harder to follow than the original. (The third movie is much more confusing and I don’t recommend it.) The reason this movie is hard to follow is because of the introduction of the “Frank” character. The actor who played Clemenza in the first movie was all set to reprise the role when he had a falling out with Coppola and his part was rewritten at the last minute as Frank. If you just pretend Frank is Clemenza the movie is easier to follow.
Yeah you need to watch it couple times to understand.
Looking forward to the 2nd part
Definitely the best choice in the poll. Superman Returns, Kingdom of the Crystal, and Matrix Revolutions all suck
‘We gotta pop Hyman’ 🤔
15:07 This face will never get old. Lol
A cinematic work of art .
Great movie, but Chinatown was the best movie of 1974.
The actor who played Clemenza in the first film, Richard Castellano, wanted too much money to appear in Part II, so he was replaced by Michael V. Gazzo in the role of Frankie Pentangelli. The actor playing Connie’s boyfriend Merle Johnson in the early scene is one-time teen heartthrob Troy Donahue. Donahue’s real name: Merle Johnson.
"What's a WOP?" It originates from the Southern Italian dialectal term guappo, roughly meaning "dandy", or "swaggerer", derived from the Spanish term guapo, meaning "good-looking", "dandy", from Latin vappa for "sour wine", also "worthless fellow".
American gangsters are carving up a "Cuba" cake as they're discussing how they're going to carve up the actual country. "Make sure everyone gets a slice". The corrupt Cuban government would have made it possible but the revolution happened. Castro did a lot of bad things but he wasn't going to let the American mob in.
Your so sweet and that must be it’s so awesome to see you react to a gangster flick.
Fredo was a sob who should have been killed in the first movie he helped to kill his own father. he took side against the FAMILY FFS.
4:46 Don Ciccio thought Vito would grow up to avenge his dad and brother but made that a self fulfilling prophecy by also killing his mother.
Cassie, love ya for throwing in the Lebowski reference at 17:55! You've come a L-O-N-G way since the channel started 🙂
You should watch the movie again, you missed a few pieces 😁
8:41 Frank Pentangeli was a character created to replace Clemenza because Richard Castellano who played Clemenza in the first film didn't come back. He didn't get the money he wanted, was told he'd have to put on a lot of weight to play the part again and didn't think Clemenza would ever betray Michael.
