Recently, there have been a lot of updates from the Russian-controlled territories.
Here, Ukrainians launched a three-day-long combined effort to strike Russian military facilities in the Luhansk region, Crimea, and the Russian Federation.
On the fourth of August, two days ago, Ukrainians launched a huge missile attack on Luhansk, targeting a machine-building plant that Russians had repurposed to store and repair tanks and military equipment. Ukrainians used eight ground-launched ATACMS missiles and four air-launched Storm Shadow cruise missiles for the attack. The head of the Russian LPR stated that Russian air defense had shot down 4 of these missiles but that the remaining eight had effectively hit their target. The strikes hit warehouses and fuel depots on the facilitiesβ grounds, causing large smoke clouds to appear over Luhansk city.
One day prior, Ukrainians also performed a successful large drone attack on military targets in the Rostov region. Ukrainians effectively struck fuel depots on their way to their main target, as local inhabitants posted videos of several petroleum tanks going up in flames, as Russian officials noted that 15 Ukrainian drones had hit their targets. The primary Ukrainian target, however, was the Morozovsk airfield, as NASA FIRMS satellite data shows the entire base was engulfed in flames.
After the dust had settled, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense shared satellite images of the aftermath of the strike, showing the airfield had suffered extensive damage. The most impressive photos were that of the warehouse where glide bombs and air-to-air missiles were stored, showing the entire facility was leveled to the ground. The footage also shows that one Russian SU-34 fighter bomber was destroyed completely, and two more were damaged by shrapnel and debris. Ukrainians also hit four technical and operational buildings and two repair hangars, which were all damaged by the explosions.
On the first day of the operation, one day before the airfield strike, Ukrainians launched a series of attacks on high-value targets in Crimea with HIMARS ATACMS, Storm Shadow, and a large number of drones. Russian military analysts noted that for months now, Ukrainians have been using new flight paths for their attacks, flying over the black sea to circumvent Russian electronic warfare systems and attack their targets from behind.
Satellite footage of one of the targets shows that Ukrainians struck a Russian S-400 air defense base, destroying at least one S-400 system and damaging another, while the fate of two others remains unknown. Next, Ukrainians destroyed another S-400 and one S-500 anti-ballistic missile system with HIMARS ATACMS missiles near the Kerch bridge. The total cost of these lost air defense systems is over three and a half billion dollars, not counting the possible repair cost for one damaged and two missing systems.
Interestingly enough, Ukrainians reportedly also struck the Russian Rostov-on-Don submarine again, and this time possibly for good. As you may remember, Ukrainians hit the same submarine almost a year prior, after which many naval experts stated the vessel was damaged beyond repair. Nevertheless, Russians seem to have invested a lot of time and money into repairing it, as the submarine was reportedly conducting trials in the Sevastopol harbor. While satellite images remain inconclusive, the Ukrainian defense ministry claimed the successful strike on the drydock sank the submarine, this time for good. If further images show these claims to be accurate, it would be another devastating blow and an embarrassing loss for the Russian black sea fleet.
In general, Ukrainian strikes on Crimea focus on Russian air defense systems near vulnerable critical infrastructure, forcing Russians to redeploy more of these systems away from the front line. This, in turn, puts Russian high command in a nasty dilemma. They have to weaken either their air defense network around military facilities in the north and east or risk Ukrainians successfully striking high-value targets in Crimea, like the Kirch Bridge or the Sevastopol harbor.
These Ukrainian strikes had three mutually supportive yet distinct objectives in order to ease the situation for Ukrainians and simultaneously undermine the Russian position. The first is that the attack on the airfield in Rostov and the machine-building plant in Luhanskβ¦

First of all, itβs annoying how he says βUquoniansβ instead of βUkrainiansβ, even in Russian or Ukrainian you say βΠ£ΠΊΡΠ°ΠΉΠ½Ρβ, there is no βQβ sound. Second, these strikes are from 2022 or halfway true, the struck submarine was from the 2023 attacks, damaged Luhansk plant was from the 2023 Luhansk counteroffensive and etcβ¦
Right now what he is trying to do is selling PR attacks to the viewers that Ukraine is βstill capableβ of doing offensive attacks. Sounds very positive, but i fear it will not work as long as the US is still not ready to allow strikes on russian soil with weapons carried by f16. Also, it seems that Ukraine is not getting long range air-to-air missles to shoot down Su34 fighter bomberβ¦ i really donβt get it. Why is the west hesitating to provide all necessary equipment to Ukraine. Not even arms production is boosted. Germany still manufacturing on a handbuilt level no high quantity assembly lines are opened. Hardly no hardware is provided this year. Leopard 1 sucks, but they could be of use if modified with a skyranger turret for air defence (shown on eurosatory 2024)β¦. I hope Ukraine will win! They fight for us all! Support Ukraine! πΊπ¦
WOWβ¦a S500 included. Thatβs awesome. I think Turkey should rethink their use of the S400 system they have from Russia. Same with Iran.
Destroying one launcher of a S400 does not destroy the whole system.. they'd have to destroy all launchers and control systems before you can claim that it costs 3.5B to replace.
You should take a look at the Kursk Offensive and Sudzha encirclement. Thank you for your work!
There is a Historian critical of the power in the shadows who says that we are coming back to the Middle Ages, that Umberto Eco warned about that, it is a deeper transformation than the simple brutalization and impoverishment of society. Ukraine are the biggest trolls
Critically damages a submarine
Let the Russians repair it
After letting them get it back into service
Destroys it π

Orwell's novel 1984 is so bad that you read it in one sitting although with some interest, it seems written in a hurry. Although it does not deserve to be a famous novel, not even remotely, it contains some truths, some of which we see now reflected in Ukraine. I wonder if Zelensky would ban that novel, the same way he bans porn and religion in Ukraine, it's amazing.Ukraine is undoubtedly a social and political experiment…. taken to the extreme.
Today is my first day back at keeping up with the Ukraine situation. I followed it daily for the first 2 years but had to finally take a mental health break from it a few months back. I felt guilty doing that because I am fully aware that while I have the choice to disengage, Ukrainians do not. But, the whole time I was absent, I just knew in my gut that Ukrainians would continue to be incredibly adaptive, creative, and absolutely determined to not just defend, but to take the offensive at every opportunity. Seeing the updates over the last couple of days, I am happily unsurprised to discover that, indeed, Ukraine has not just pushed back that terrible red front line from where it was a few months ago, but is finally able to use those long-awaited fighter jets to take the fight right into Russia itself! Incredible footage too!
While I was away I also kept my confidence that allied Western democratic countries and NATO, ALWAYS have a Plan B, and Plan C, and a great deal of military and political intelligence going on behind the scenes, and that they would NEVER allow Russia to win. And it appears that my confidence was valid! They continue to have my highest admiration for their resilience and will to fight. No matter how long it takes, how tired and terrified those soldiers must be (the scenes of them crossing the waters in those boats in the dark while under fire had my heart beating quite a lot faster!), and how frustrating it has to be when facing overwhelming odds during those many incidences when soldiers have been backed into corners and surrounded by the enemy, and yet, they fight on! And fight well! When this thing is over (probably not until Putin himself is over), Ukraine will undoubtedly be one of the strongest military forces in the world! And still no official Navy to speak of. It's just incredible! My deepest regards to civilians and military forces alike from Canada.
I do feel like I need to point out that Canada has not just welcomed many, many Ukrainians coming to this land to start anew or get some respite from the war over the last two years, but they have been doing so for centuries now. Ukrainians are a part of the fabric of Canada, as are pretty much everyone who is not of Indigenous First Peoples decent. We need to remember, and respect, that ALL modern, non-indigenous North Americans immigrated here from around the world at some point. All of us. My ancestors included. And by that fact alone, none of us has a right to say that this is OUR land, with closed borders. It is not. It never was. We have a responsibility to continue to foster immigration (of good people, not criminals or terrorist or those with religious or political violence in mind), just like our ancestors who facilitated the existence of every Canadian and US born citizen did. We all came from elsewhere at some point. That means that all people, in every country, are connected to each other in some way. That fact alone makes us responsible for the welfare of each other.
I suppose it is this idea that weighs so heavily on my mind when I think about what is happening in Ukraine. Because, are we not all Ukrainian? Considering the interconnectedness of us in the context of immigration and ancestry, we are all Canadians, Ukrainians, Britains, etc. To disregard any person or culture or country anywhere on Earth is to disregard ourselves.
And with that rather unexpectedly long monologue, I thank this channel, and others, for providing me with updates on this terrible war, and for sticking it out day after day, with no mental health breaks. My deepest respect!
Slava Ukraine!
The long term problem with this war is that it's being added to our Debt and Russia is burning through cash and selling oil and gas as cheap and fast as it can. These expenses will just accumulate and eventually add to the burden Children and Grandchildren have when their currencies are weak and their economies suffer because of very large National Debt's that are being serviced with interest payments.
It will be soon that the US Second most expensive item on the US Federal Budget is the Interest paid on the US National Debt. That will force other areas of Government spending to be cut and vital programs may lack finance.
Countries can strangle themselves in debt. Sure they can print paper, but that adds to inflation and we see how a weak Dollar and a very weak Ruble is hard for the domestic economy to support daily life.
I wish that Ukraine had not made a big presentation with the new jets. It plays well for the Doner Countries, look what they gave us, but FIVE jets is not an operationally significant number. They will require a lot of maintenance per flight hour and if just one is hit, that is 20 Percent of their current inventory. Maybe when they can get up to a full two squadrons worth of jets, then they can manage to fly actual combat missions. But having 80 Percent jets operationally ready to fly is costly.
Not to be bitching. But 1 air defence system costing 2.5 billion dollars. Even if I translate it to my language, 2.500.000.000 dollars. Seems a bit exaggerated. Can someone explaine the cost/value in numbers I understand?
We now see why the made this attack at that time π
So what information will you give us about the Ukrainian losses? You say these things, but when you look at the map, it is seen that Russia continues to advance into Ukraine. Also, many NATO weapons were destroyed during the Ukrainian counter-attack. Ukraine is the right side. It has to defend its country. However, I do not see any success.
Interesting and well explained as usual!
Habt ihr noch immer nicht kapiert, wer den Krieg gewinnen wird?! Eure bescheuerten Durchhalteparolen verlΓ€ngern das Leiden nur!
Have you still not understood who will win the war?! Your stupid slogans of perseverance only prolong the suffering!
Thanks for the report, excellent work Ukraine, Slava Ukraine from Australia
