06 Ma Omrot Einaich (What Your Eyes Tell) – Ofra Haza

The successful pop-oriented period of Ofra’s career coincided with her desire to return to the music of her heritage. Thus in 1983 she released „Shirey Moledet” (Homeland Songs), which consisted of her renditions of well-known Israeli folk songs. The public response was so overwhelming that she went on to release two more volumes of this kind (in 1985 and 1987).

Lyrics (English translation):

The Sun, the Sun went down to the sea
The wind, the wind shall easily stir
Who dreams, dreams of you
In an outpost, a lone outpost?

Two lights in the night, the night, the night
Are suddenly hinting, hinting to me
What your eyes tell, your eyes, your eyes
Without words till the end, the end

Between rocks, rocks and mountain
A lonely, lonely tree shall sleep
Who goes, goes home to you
At dusk, the dusk of the day?

Two lights in the night, the night, the night
Are suddenly hinting, hinting to me
What your eyes tell, your eyes, your eyes
Without words till the end, the end

Morning, morning, soon it brightens
And I’ll return, return from fighting
Will I find, still find
Remains, remains of the dream?

Two lights in the night, the night, the night
Are suddenly hinting, hinting to me
What your eyes tell, your eyes, your eyes
Without words till the end, the end

The speaker in this song is a soldier.
