In last weeks tutorial of (Sarus Cranes) a viewer made a comment saying that he noticed a vertical band running from the top of the image and through the left bird. When I made the tutorial I hadn’t noticed this issue. After taking a closer look at the image, I now see the vertical band and I will show you how we can remove it using the Frequency Separation Action found in the TK8 PLUG-IN FOR PHOTOSHOP… You can download the edited image with the vertical band issue and follow along with me and learn how to remove it with Frequency Separation…

  2. Thanks Dave. Very informative. I see lot's of good uses for this. I do have one question for you. Why did you paint directly on the texture layer rather than a new blank layer as you did with the colour? Merry Christmas to you and your family. Enjoy the holiday season.

  3. Sampling the background was done with the foreground color set to white in the Photoshop color swatch. Sampling the birds was done using a sample color brush with the green brush in TK8 Cx. What was the point of using different sampling approaches Dave?

  4. Had not noticed this in the image of the birds then. I of course see it now and can also not " unsee". I use Freq Separation when needed. This is a good example of its use. It works well in many instances, like portraits (faces), detail on buildings and walls, and more.

  5. Hi Dave: Thanks for walking us through this type of edit. Is this a technique that could be used for removing fences in an image? Best wishes to you and your family. Cheers, Keith

  6. Very timely. I recently returned from a trip with an image with some lens flare from shooting into the sun despite best efforts to shield lens (blocked all but one spot). I knew I’d have to hunt around to find frequency separation info to fix it.

  7. Hi Dave.
    This technique is powerful.
Primarily if you regularly work with flowers, you can get rid of almost any spot and turn it into a beautiful flower.
    Even better than the original.
This also shows the power of this panel.
I also use your tip to create an extra blanc layer in the group every time.
For me, this has been the best purchase this year, the TK8 panel.
    Happy Holidays,
    Antoine.
PS. You are doing an excellent job, my friend. 👌

  8. Very helpful! Thanks!
I used frequency separation number of times. However, sometimes I did not get the results as I expected. With some watch-out points from this class, I would be more successful next time.

  9. Hi Dave. My question is not on this topic. My question is, (Canon R5) allows me to set the picture style. I've been using "Standard." For a variety of reasons, I'm now switching to "Neutral." After applying Tony's linear profile to the image, is there a difference between what the styles produce? Any thoughts about my change of styles. Thanks.
