The cowboy's new name is just cool to me, like the infamous cowboy Butch Cassidy. His name also feels like the right step for his character as he is no longer Jesse McCree the outlaw, but now he is trying to be a much better person and finally use the potential people saw in him. I understand that people don't like it but like sheesh I swear most people have not been playing Overwatch are the ones complaining the most. I always called him cowboy since there are no other cowboys in the game, same like I call Ashe Cowgirl. I only hear people calling him Cole or Cass in game so it's weird how online there is so much outrage for a name of a fictional character who was named after some creep.
The comments I see are like the most shitty arguments against it my favorites are "I don't care" Then why are you complaining, or "No one knew he was named after a creep so they could have ignored it" If you are a game dev you have to be saying this name constantly when it comes to game balance and lore it was for the devs not the players, or the "Why are you offended by a name" because it isn't his name anymore that is it simple respect for the devs and the character people like.

Frankly, I find it a shame that Blizzards wasted a great opportunity to justify McCree/Cassidy's name change inside the OW lore.
They could've said that Jesse McCree was a bandit name, adopted by him to escape the law, Ashe's band or whatnot, and now, with crisis approaching and Overwatch team coming back together, there's no more reason to hide his real name…
