"Where is humanity?" Alabama death row inmate's wife decries execution by nitrogen gas

Convicted murderer Kenneth Smith was executed in Alabama by nitrogen hypoxia, a controversial and widely-contested death penalty method used for the first time in the United States.

Smith’s execution came after he had already survived a botched lethal injection in November 2022.

“Our son was crying, at the time he just watched his father take his last gasp for air…Where is the humanity, where’s the compassion, where’s love, and forgiveness?” Deanna Smith, Kenneth’s wife said after his death.

His final words were also read out by a media personnel.

Nitrogen hypoxia execution causes death by forcing the inmate to breathe pure nitrogen, depriving them of the oxygen needed to maintain bodily functions.

  1. Why would she take her son with her? Unfortunately whoever he killed doesn't get a chance for last words… so, where's humanity is a good question when seeking sympathy for those convicted of such crimes.

  2. He stabbed a woman to death for money.

    Conviction(s)
    First-degree murder

    Victims
    Elizabeth Dorlene Sennett, 45

Smith was convicted of the March 18, 1988, murder-for-hire of Elizabeth Sennett in Colbert County, Alabama. Charles Sennett Sr., Elizabeth's husband, recruited Billy Gray Williams to murder his wife. Williams in turn recruited Smith and John Forrest Parker to assist in the murder. Smith and Parker carried out the murder and stabbed Elizabeth Sennett to death at her home in Colbert County

  3. Where was his humanity when he killed that poor soul. He gets no sympathy, he gets his deserts how he gave it to the victum. Moral don't murder and you don't have to hear weak excuses from wives looking for sympathy . You did it not you get it.

  4. How old is his son? I certainly hope that he is no longer a child and made the decision to watch his father die for himself. But at least he had the choice whereas the victims son didn’t have the option to be there when his mother died. Clearly no one was behaving disrespectfully so his wife’s comment about the media shuffling papers and talking about time has no merit.

  5. Hmm! Strange how so many inmates find religion and "love for humanity" once they're behind bars or about to be "terminated". I hope someone is feeling grief for the bad guys' victims. Remember them?…. THE VICTIMS?

  7. I feel truly awful for his family. This is not fair to them, and they are victims too.

Their pain is wrongfully directed now towards the state, where it should be towards their murderer father/husband. He alone is at fault.

  8. I'm usually a kind hearted person, but I don't feel sorry for him. He got all those years of visiting with his family. What about the victim's family? What about the terror and pain the victim felt?

  9. I’m sorry..why is she even being interviewed in the first place and making pleas to the public for sympathy 🤨 people just don’t take a left turn & end up on death row ..I mean seriously …hellllllllo…he’s a murderer, a killer and then the audacity to use your son to gather more sympathy..GROSS 💀

  10. Her husband was no saint and made the decision to be a cold blooded for hire killer!

What about feeling some humanity for the victim?

Nowadays, it seems that criminals have all the rights and the victims family have to fight to seek justice!

  11. The wife though naturally upset, looks to have forgotten that her husband is a convicted murderer. That murder victim did not ask to be murdered and her loved ones suffer as a result.

I am not for arbitrary capital punishment, but it is one form of true justice. Btw it does likely deter potential future homicide. Don't let the bleeding hearts say otherwise.

True concequencses to real crime does shape society's natue on crime. No true accountability won't prevent all crime, but it does shape society towards a more civil outcome. Again don't let the bleeding hearts get away with saying otherwise.🤔
